This is where you hit the Law of Diminishing Returns.

What's the difference between a $5,000 sound system and a $30,000 sound system?

$25,000.

Only a passing bat could tell the difference.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

JEROME KERN

SWING TIME: “THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT”

This is early Lady Day, recorded in 1936 when the song was fresh and hadn’t yet become a standard. This is a solid jazz fox trot version backed by some great sidemen.

Billie Holiday: “The Way You Look Tonight”

I LOVE jazz——one of the best nights of my life was spent in Birdland,in NYC, approx. 1958,———Lester Young-—the smokiest room I was ever in.:-)

Great—there was also a club in Boston called Storyville that we used to go to——good times.

This late Forties recording features a whole lot of jazz sidemen who made it big in later years.

I did not particularly like Bugs Henderson when I met him, but he was OK and I miss his sour face.

I always thought that “Fernando” was the anthem of a future war between the US and Mexico.

First they called it be-bop, but as the Fifties rolled on, it became Progressive Jazz. This is from 1954.

Progressive Jazz was one of the most interesting things to come out of Fifties music. This is a 4-hand piano masterpiece.

The Bill Evans Quartet: “The Way You Look Tonight”
