"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down ones life for ones friends." John 15:13
I wonder if they can widen the tunnels or make new tunnels, without risking the kids?
Amen...RIP Hero
Natural caves (especially limestone) are usually stable as it takes millions of years for them to be carved out by natural underground water. The soft stuff gets removed and the hard stuff remains. If its been that ways for centuries, its not likely to change over short time spans.
Manmade tunnels like for mining, in contrast, are much less stable and prone to cave-in. They don't take into account the natural erosion processes of natural caves, they cut through soft and hard earth, and stress or sudden changes in ground water can cause collapse.
If they try to dig out or widen the tunnels, it could just cause a catastrophic collapse.
Drill down like the Chileans did to rescue the miners..................
See my post 5. Many challenges to drilling down. Challenge one is finding them as drilling down is like shooting blindly. Challenge two relates to my earlier post. If they are not careful, they could make the situation even worse. This is not the rock dry desert of Chile. Its tropical Thailand during monsoon season. Not sure if there is a magic bullet here.
Maybe pump the water out...
Theyve been doing that, too. Problem is it refills pretty quickly. They have to do it continuously to have any effect.
Amen...RIP Hero
Agree and second the RIP. However, his death was under odd circumstances it seems to me. SEALS, whether US, Thai, whoever, train extensively in scuba gear under all sorts of dangerous scenarios. For a SEAL to run out of air just seems strange. I have not as yet seen any details about his death, maybe in a few days....
They’ve said from the first there is so little oxygen that only 2 rescuers at a time are allowed in where they boys are.
I gather this was not while he was underwater. A SEAL should know better than to run out of oxygen. Always protect yourself so you can protect others.
Wonder if we’re not being told the whole truth about the SEAL since the story has changed from them being a scout troop to now a football team and that they couldn’t swim but now there is a picture of them swimming prior to the cave. Just the facts. How hard is that to report?
Perhaps it was an equipment failure. Sometimes skill and experience are not enough to overcome that.
How awful! Praying for the rescuers and the boys. May the kids be rescued and workers be be safe and get these children out alive. Amen.
Wow, those kids are in deep sh*t. Just heard about this yeasterday. This is disastrous. My prayers for the fallen SEAL, those running the rescue and the kids who hopefully will come out of this alive and remember not to do dumb things like this ever again.

can they run lines of Oxygen into the boys? Maybe one line
to suck out the bad air?
More details, and nice scale cross-section details(approx halfway into the article)

Why not tether the boys to a SEAL (the smallest one) and use Brownies Third Lung.
Many non scuba certified recreational swimmers have success with this- hose length 150’.
Or a SEAL tethers a boy with a mini portable oxygen device on the boy which is swapped out every few minutes.
If a SEAL can get in the cave, a tiny slim boy can get out. They have to risk it and begin getting them out.
