Texas mom shoots man trying to take car with her kids inside at gas station
FOX NEWS ^ | July 5, 2018 | Katherine Lam

A Texas mother said she didn’t think twice about shooting a would-be carjacker when the man jumped into her vehicle at a Dallas gas station while her two sons were in the backseat.

Michelle Booker-Hicks was at the Shell station along Interstate 35 around 10 p.m. Wednesday when Ricky Wright, 36, attempted to steal her vehicle while she was paying her gas bill, police said. Booker-Hicks told FOX4 Dallas her two sons, ages 2 and 4, were sitting in the backseat at the time.

I proceeded to jump in my backseat and told the gentleman to stop, to get out the car. He would not get out of the car. He turned around and looked at me. I reached over the armrest to get my glove compartment and that’s when I fired at him once I got the gun from my glove compartment,” Booker-Hicks recalled to the news station.

Booker-Hicks shot Wright in the face while he was allegedly trying to drive away. He crashed the vehicle into the fence.

“I’m not a killer but I do believe in defending what’s mine,” the mother of two said. “I hope that woke him up.”

Wright was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment. He is expected to face charges including kidnapping and the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle or carjacking.

Booker-Hicks and her children were not injured in the incident.

If this happened in NJ

1. The mother would be charged with attempted murder.

2. She would not have the proper means to defend and her and the kids would be injured or dead.

They had to make note of the truly awful headline writing. If that’s all I went by, I would think the children were inside the gas station waiting to be kidnapped.

Her children whom she saved, would be taken from her by CPS. Her children ripped from the arms of their mother who saved them. But that’s ok but they are Americans and not protected by out laws.

Yup, what you said...

...Or she shot a guy at a gas station who was trying to take the car into said gas station, along with her kids.

...Or, she shot a guy, who was trying to remove the car and kids from inside a gas station.

The mods must be off for an extended weekend.

Normally, this many duplicate threads would not be tolerated.

But I get why you posted it. It’s a really great story that’s hard not to share.

She left the kids in an unlocked car with a loaded gun and either running or the keys in the car.

Seriously...

I am sorry that as is usual you can't be bothered to read the article the post is based on. And then as usual you post your uninformed snarky nonsense. Let me help clear things up for you.

The 2 and 4 year old kids were strapped in their car seats in the back seat of the car. They would not have been able to reach the glove compartment without escaping from their seats. The lady was paying her bill while she kept a close eye on the car and the kids and was actually close enough to jump into the car when she saw the car thief try to steal it. This was in Texas (you know the state where your pseudonym suggests you are from). Hasn't their been some type of heat wave going on? So it was likely necessary to keep the car running to keep it cool enough for the kids to stay in it.

You being the smartest Texan in the world would have figured out a better way to handle things I am sure. Actually I think that you would have peed your pants and stood crying on the side of the road begging a lady like this mother to help you. But that is just my impression of you from your posting history.

Our Second Amendment is for keeping our country free by protecting our right to armed defense of our nation on our own soil if ever needed. But it does have other great benefits as seen in the great story in the post. Glad Michelle and her kids are okay, and thanks to her for making her neighborhood a little safer.

Is the woman black? She sounded black on the news report but it didn’t show her. I hope she is. A black woman using a gun to defend her family = libtard head explosions.

Yes, the woman and her children are Black/African-American. Thus this is a case of a Black criminal male stealing the car of a Black mother and she defending herself with a pistol in accordance with her 2nd amendment rights.

They probably were, HOW STUPID ARE YOU TO LEAVE YOUR CHILDREN IN A CAR UNATTENDED BY AN ADULT? It’s why we have dead children from heat, and stolen cars, depending on child’s age. Memphis had a 9 yr old killed because he could ID the PREPS who stole his mom’s car. We see every other night a child being left in a hot car to cook to death, because some stupid parent ‘forgot’ to drop them off at Daycare. How do you forget you have your child in the car when you have to use your rear view mirror often while driving. We just ran into the store for a gallon of milk, or a pack of cigs. They do pets the same way.

NO COMMONSENSE.

“The 2 and 4 year old kids were strapped in their car seats in the back seat of the car.

Like a four year old can’t get out of a car seat! Plenty of kids die each year and the parents say ‘I only looked away for a minute ...’.

“The lady was paying her bill while she kept a close eye on the car and the kids and was actually close enough to jump into the car when she saw the car thief try to steal it.”

Correction. The thief DID steal the car and the two kids. Mom and kids are VERY lucky they were killed.

“If this happened in NJ”...

Before that happened there’d have to be judgement from the leftist and social media based on race, sexual status at that particular time, potential victimhood of both sides, political affiliation(MAGA hat=guilty), citizenship status, legal owner of evil firearms, etc...

It’s a long and complex formula these days.

Thank you Mr. Government mandated safety expert. Sorry to burst your bubble, but responsible parents and grandparents know who the little Houdinis are and take additional precautions. Kids are so overprotected these days that they never learn not to do dangerous things.

When I and most of the others on this forum were kids we didn't have car seats or even seat belts. When our parents told us to stay in the car with the windows down when they went into the gas station or store, we stayed put or faced their wrath. Somehow we learned to obey our parents and miraculously we survived to a ripe old age by learning something called common sense to protect us.
