Political pundit Ed Schultz has died at age 64, his employer RT America announced on Thursday.
"We at RT America are sad to announce the passing of Edward Andrew Schultz. Ed Schultz passed quietly early morning on July 5 at his home in Washington, D.C. This announcement comes as a shock to all of us here at RT America," the network said in a statement.
Schultz began his career with a successful stint covering sports in the Fargo-Moorhead market. He launched his political career as a conservative talk radio commentator in the early 1990s but he eventually changed his views and aligned with liberals on many issues. He called himself "a gun-toting, meat-eating leftie" during an interview with the Los Angeles Times back in 2004.
Schultz gained national fame when he hosted The Ed Show on MSNBC from 2009-2015.
The Ed Show was canceled by MSNBC in 2015 when MSNBC president Phil Griffin decided the network needed a new look, which resulted in a drastic overhaul featuring additional breaking news coverage replacing daytime opinion content.
Following his stint at MSNBC, Schultz joined RT America in 2016.

64 is too young for anyone to pass away.
Agreed. Sad.
For News Junkies like me, Ed could be a lot of fun, when he wasn’t being a pain in the caboose. One might have called him “A Poor (Democrat) Man’s Alex Jones. The Young Turk has a very similar blustery stage presence. Thanks for the fun, Special Ed.
>>Not a fan of his politics but prayers and sympathy for his family.<<
Agreed.
He was VERY angry. Anger is not good for well-being.
Most Conservatives I know are optimistic, even when the political climate wind blows otherwise. We shook our fists with but also shrugged during the obozo years.
I think Mr. Schultz was unable to shrug.
May God have mercy on his soul and show him the Light in the afterlife.
Hate kills.
Ed was the only commentator(that I know of) that absolutely REAMED Hillary on election night——for not showing up at the Javits Center to speak to her loyal followers.
I admired him for that——and he certainly was not happy that Trump had won.
Remember Perky Katie Couric announcing that Rush Limbaugh needed to move over because there was a new kid on the block to counter his program.
He was touted as the lib answer to Rush Limbaugh.
I must be way out the loop... never heard of him

I just didn’t see it in his RT show or recent interviews. Like Ed said I dont agree with Trump on everything but still lavished praise on his work ethic, executive experience and ability to connect with voters. A far cry from the Schultz of “Trump a racist and “nobody” was interested in seeing him become president” circa 2011.
The hate consumed him.
“”””He was touted as the lib answer to Rush Limbaugh.””””
He was a sportscaster in Fargo and then turned into a political commentator on WDAY. He was a complete Rush clone.
If Rush said it, Special Ed said it.
Then he went to KFGO in Fargo and immediately turned into a Rachel Madcow clone.
He lived about a block from me in Fargo. He was always a dick.
Still, sad to see anyone go at 64.
He was mean and nasty. Very little talent too.
Still 64 way too young.
Any cause given for Ed’s death?
His dog was to young to be shot dead by Mr. Ed too.
He was pretty stout for a long time and didn’t seem much like an athelete.
