Peter Strzok, the former FBI agent who vowed to "stop" President Trump from winning the 2016 election despite being part of a federal investigation into his campaign, may not show up to testify next week despite being subpoenaed.
"My client will testify soon, somewhere, sometime. We just got this subpoena today, so I don't know whether or not we are going to be testifying next Tuesday in front of these two particular House subcommittees," Aitan Goelman, Strzok's attorney, told CNN's Chris Cuomo.
Goelman said he could not automatically respond "yes" because the two "have come to the conclusion, forced to come to the conclusion, that this is not a search for truth, it is a chance for Republican members of the House to preen and posture before their most radical, conspiracy-minded constituents."
The House Judiciary and Oversight committees sent Strzok the request earlier Tuesday. Goelman initially said his client preferred a public hearing after portions of his first testimony, an 11-hour event held behind closed doors, were leaked by the Republican-controlled committee.
"From our experience with the committee thus far, it is obvious that they don't want the truth. They don't want to hear what Pete has to say, the lawyer added.
The second hearing was called so lawmakers could hear more about Strzoks experience working on the federal probe into Hillary Clintons private email server and relationship Trumps campaign had with Russia during the 2016 campaign.
A June report by the Department of Justice inspector general concluded that Strzoks text messages to his work colleague and mistress, Lisa Page, about preventing Trump winning the election did not affect the agency's ability to investigate Trump properly.
this allows us to understand and experience exactly how Rome went from a Republic to an Empire.
I want to hear with the little character assassin has to say.
“....it is a chance for Republican members of the House to preen and posture before their most radical, conspiracy-minded constituents.”
Here we go....
We pretty much know where the phony Russian Collusion conspiracy came from now, don’t we?
That dog won't hunt Goelman. We have the emails and a fraudulent witch hunt.
So what? No one does anything. I counted 23 threats by Nunes alone. Gowdy is on record 6 times threatening response to those that are in contempt of congress. Nothing is done. Just hot air — toothless tigers.
It is my opinion that there are piles of evidence that Strzok repeatedly did obstruct and conspired with others to obstruct justice for the hundreds of crimes and felonies of Hillary Clinton. He criminally , in my view, attempted to fabricate evidence to FRAME president Trump in that silly russian nonsense, He should be indicted by a grand jury and tried and convicted and punished for that. But we have a feckless attorney general who has been compromised and relegated to a total joke but this congressional theater is boring and futile. They don’t even read their own bills and they are a bunch of clowns.
He does not get to choose. If he ignores the subpoena, he can be picked up. Plus he is in the Federal payroll. Stop his checks I want the guy on C Span pleading the Fifth. This will underscore the fact that the lead investigator on the Trump Russia and Hillary e mail investigation has something to hide which makes the Mueller Russia investigation look tainted. Let the Dems defend the dirtball taking the Fifth
Congress has a sergeant-at-arms has a marshall with the power to compel Strzok to appear.
Time to haul Strzok’s fanny to the witness chair and let him take the 5th before the cameras.
He gets a check from the FBI, he will testify - who do these people think they are?
So we no longer are compelled to comply with a subpoena?
Personally, I won’t play the two systems game any more.
“Sub Poena” literally “under pain of penalty”. WTF? Is the House entirely toothless, and if so why bandy about such an empty word?
Strzok is an utter treasonous coward!
He might just as well ignore them. It doesn’t seem that there have been ANY consequences for anyone in the past 10 years, at least.
Wake me up if anything happens.
Congressional Subpoenas really have no power other than to cause the person to plead the 5th in public and say nothing, in which case the subpoena would be just a tool for causing bad press for the person...................
That’s all it can do...................
Yep! Let’s get the entire damn department to plea out.
So much for their Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity
I am now rooting for the Mafia.
He can’t play the race card.
Congress has no police powers. If someone ignores their subpoena they are powerless. They have no enforcement powers.
