On this day in 1865, President Andrew Johnson signs an executive order that confirms the military conviction of a group of people who had conspired to kill the late President Abraham Lincoln, then commander in chief of the U.S. Army. With his signature, Johnson ordered four of the guilty to be executed.
Confederate sympathizers David E. Herold, G. A. Atzerodt, Lewis Payne, Mary E. Surratt, Michael O’Laughlin, Edward Spangler, Samuel Arnold and Samuel A. Mudd were arraigned on May 9 and convicted on July 5 for “maliciously, unlawfully, and traitorously” conspiring with several others, including John Wilkes Booth, who had assassinated President Lincoln on April 14, 1865. In addition to targeting Lincoln, the conspirators had planned to kill General Ulysses S. Grant as he led Union armies in the Civil War against the southern states. Vice President Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln to the presidency, was also one of the group’s intended prey.
Confederate President Jefferson Davis, although not charged in this particular action, was implicated for inciting the traitorous bunch to kill the Union’s key leaders. Davis was a former U.S. senator from South Carolina who led that state’s secession from the Union in 1860. The court claimed that Davis “aided and comforted the insurgents, engaged in armed rebellion against the said United States [and aided] the subversion and overthrow of the Constitution and laws of the said United States.”

I didn’t know Mrs. Surratt was that directly involved. I thought she just ran a boarding house where the conspirators met & plotted.
I do remember reading that Pres. Andrew Johnson received many appeals for clemency for Mary Surratt, but that he was adamant, saying “She kept the nest where the egg was hatched”.
There were all kinds of reports about Booth over the years. Even European sightings of him and in Asia.............

Today, nobody cares if you sell your office, give away classified information, run your own privat communications system for government business, subvert elections, conspire against the president and the Republic. FAR, FAR worse stuff today and nothing is going to happen to th eplotters and seditionists. That was the reason I posted this.

Thanks. That’s why I posted this today. We are living through the same situation right now. Plotters, seditionists, a huge cabal of treasonists have been working to essentially decapitate our government. The difference how they were handled in 1865 vs today could not Ben more stark. The U.S. was a serious country back then.
Look closely...the entire width of the platform was one big trap door. It appears to be a hastily erected gallows — just the type we need today on the mall.

Yes - I see it now. I’ve read about it, it was a hastily constructed gallows, custom for the occasion.
Booth tore out pages to write notes.
Leftist conspining to interfere in an election and to falsify information with intent to impeach a president is also treason.
Covering up those crimes is also treason.
Half the Obama administration and current dem aparatchiks involved can go to prison for that crime.
Also - The Hillary Investigation is the Dems worst nightmare and I dont think that we are done with them carrying out further crimes to try to stop it.
High Treason in wartime is punishable by death.
