People of Praise was founded in 1971 in South Bend, Indiana, with a core group of 29 people. The group is part of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement, which arose in the late 1960s as a blend of Catholic traditions and Protestant Pentecostalism. By the late 1980s, according to the World Christian Encyclopedia, up to 10 million people in the United States were participating in the movement in some way. Some simply participated in prayer groups. But others started groups that emphasized a more holistic kind of intentional community living: not necessarily living under the same roof but committing to share one anothers lives.
The original South Bend group now includes about 350 members, split into several smaller branches. About 450 people belong to People of Praise in the Twin Cities area in Minnesota, about 200 in Northern Virginia, and other smaller groups operate in 11 other states. The group also operates three Christian junior high and high schools in its three largest areas. (Lent pointed out that the schools teach the theory of evolution.) Lent says its members include Catholic priests and at least one bishop, as well as plumbers, carpenters, teachers, and mathematicians. Lent himself is a professor of physics and engineering at Notre Dame, where Barrett taught at the law school until last year.

People of Praise is an ecumenical group, which means it accepts members from many Christian traditions. The only theological requirement of membership is to be a baptized Christian and to believe the Nicene Creed, a standard Christian statement of faith. Lent said the group considers abortion a morally wrong act but takes no position on abortion policy, comparing it to the way that greed is morally wrong but what that should mean for policy is up to individual discernment.

I am a Pentecostal Christian. We have a number of doctrinal disagreements with the Catholic Church but we are also in agreement on a number of issues, i.e., abortion, same-sex marriage, etc. I watch these things carefully because I see how readily the Left will get all wound up on a candidate who actually tries to live according to the tenets of his/her faith. I remember when JFK was running for President and the rumblings about his Catholic faith. I see today the snipings at Vice president Mike Pence as he lives according to the tenents of his faith. I cannot help be feel somewhat concerned should these Leftists get a stranglehold on power. “They came for the Jews, I was not a Jew so I said nothing....”
Let the Hatin’ begin.
Oooooooooooooohhhhh!!!
Some Catholics will oppose her if she is associated with the Charismatic Renewal.
This Christian cult thing is all B.S. Many Christian congregations engage in home prayer meetings and Bible study groups at private homes. This is not cult behavior but the popular method of Christian fellowship. Many of these home fellowships involve pot luck dinners where the wives share their favorite dishes. In our church, the wives submitted their favorite dishes for a published recipe book. These fellowships feed both the body and the spirit. To denigrate the opposition using the Alinsky method is their routing practice.
Not me. In general, they have good feelings, but when push comes to shove, I’m not confident that they would have my back.
>>Its funny, shes not even going to be the pick...<<
I am a Catholic, but I’m praying that you are right because this Barrett woman, in my view, is the judicial equivalent of a Congressional RINO, a stealthy Liberal masquerading as a Conservative. My reason for this conclusion is based on two red flags; (1) shes said to be a devout Catholic, but the contemporary RCC is notoriously liberal; and (2) she has adopted two orphans from Haiti, a decision that is a quintessential example of virtue signaling. Hey folks, look how progressively liberal I am. I adopted two little Haitian children. Of course there are thousands of orphans right in in the USA, but . . . well you get the picture.
Particularly the lesbian nuns, KGB-infiltrated atheist pedophile priests (and higher), and social justice dingbats.
It’s called Freedom of Religion Lefties.
It isn’t Freedom of only the Religions I approve of.
Got it?
I think she was put on the list as bait, and the left went for it like sharks to chum.
That’s a trend for the European state leaders as well.
“Traditionalists” oppose both charismatic prayer and ecumenism.
throughout history Christians have been considered a cult. buckle on your armor and face the enemy.
So pictures with farrakan and dressing in muslim garb is for Halloween
Have known many Catholic Charismatics since they first came into being and they are about as far from a cult as you can get - and I’ve seen other sincere passionate groups of Christians that did become cults or cult-like after 25+ years.
The CC’s I’ve known have been some of the most loving, open, not-critical-of-other Christians I’ve known, and I have operated and ministered in the larger realm of both non-denominational and denominational Christendom since the late 60’s.......
And many former CC’s are some of the best Christians I’ve ever known......
Typical leftist hit piece........
