WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Trump administration plans to revoke guidelines that encourage considering race in the college admissions process as a way of promoting diversity, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
The guidelines, put in place in the Obama administration in 2011 and 2016, put forth legal recommendations that Trump officials contend mislead schools to believe that legal forms of affirmative action are simpler to achieve than the law allows, the Journal reported, citing two people familiar with the plans.
Trump administration officials plan to argue the guidelines go beyond what the Supreme Court has decided on the issue.
The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled universities may use affirmative action to help minority applicants get into college. Conservatives have said such programs can hurt white people and Asian-Americans.
The Justice Department under Republican President Donald Trump has been investigating a complaint by more than 60 Asian-American organizations that say Harvard Universitys policies are discriminatory because they limit the acceptance of Asian-Americans.

College Administrators: But the we’ll be knee deep in Orientals! Asians! We mean Asians!
For some reason, I got a picture in my mind of Trump as Indiana Jones making his way through the snakes in the ancient temple. Haven’t seen that movie in years.
Trump has no problem pushing every single button that wakes up the demmie snakes. Was just reading about the Putin meeting and now this. Trump has guts, no doubt about it.
Love it! President Trump triggering Dems and RINOs on a daily basis!-)
. ...if there are 2,000 openings at Harvard one year they should go to the 2,000 with the best test scores regardless of race. If that ends up being all Asians then so be it. Whites and Blacks and Browns will just have to try harder the next year.
I particularly fear this “dumbing down” for race quotas of liberals in the medical profession. I for one would kind of like a really, really smart person cutting around on my brain.
Not a big deal, this ONLY applies to colleges which accept money from the federal government or are part of the Federal Student Loan program.
Hmmm, if I remember correctly, the colleges which are not linked to the federal government is a grand total of TWO. The other 4138 colleges...SUCKERS!
Which only goes to show that the hand that feeds you today can bite you tomorrow, or something like that.
Trump cannot rescind race guidelines. Trump cannot revoke guidelines. He didn’t make them. Words have meanings.
So, immediately, the headline is way off the track. Trump cannot rescind guidelines. Trump cannot rescind rules that organizations make up for themselves.
Trump can sign a new law that reminds people that race-based preferences are illegal and unconstitutional, and have been from the start. Affirmative action is already illegal and unconstitutional. No new law is needed, but seems like the only way to go.
“under Republican President Donald Trump” We know Reuters hates him. This is one way they show their hate.
Truth: Whites, Chinese and Japanese, and other non-Muslim Asians have a 100% perfect case for a lawsuit, with reparations in the billions for past discrimination. Colleges should be bankrupted over this.
You mean that department that trained Paul Krugman and Jonathan Gruber? (snark off!)
Point taken!
I predict that will fall by the wayside when Trump issues an EO removing the Unionization of Government employees, it is not a law merely flying under an EO issued and renewed by his predecessors in the office
Watch and see, pain trains comin’ baby!
you should read the article to understand whose guidelines he’s rescinding
And the hits just keep coming.
As Chinese American, I am kind of missing old days back in China about higher education. When the college entrance exam day comes, nationwide everywhere, you take a number with your ID and walk into an exam room with others. You walk out with another number which is your test score. When exams are done nationwide, you know if you made it. They publish all scores in your school by name so everyone knows everyone else’s scores and which college he or she were admitted. No BS
It is cruel but no dispute.
(Note, I said it is cruel because kids cut off friends who did not make it to college. Some kids with high expectations committed suicide when they failed in exams. It happens every year. I still remember that kid living in the apartment next to ours. He was so called ivy league material. For some reason, he failed in exam miserably and one day jumped out the window of his room and died. This merit-based system has been in China for thousands of years. Instead of leaving no kids behind, it selects only the best and gets rid of the rest)

Just curious, there were no second chances allowed?
.
why do blacks accept the fact that needing affirmative action is a confession of inequality of ability

Excellent. My father was affected by affirmative action back in the 1960’s. As a white guy, he had to get a higher score on the civil service exam than a minority to get a job with the Post Office. He had a coworker from the railroad union job that also went to the post office. That guy, a black man, was able to get into the post office a few years before my father even though his test scores were lower. When he told my father this, he was confused as he was not familiar with affirmative action; he grew up poor on a farm in the west of Ireland where everyone was white and Catholic.
I overcame my whiteness to be accepted at a good engineering college and later to Harvard for an MBA. The fact that women and minorities were accepted with lower qualifications has always bothered me. No one from my family was in the US prior to 1948, so we missed slavery by about 80 years...
It is about time we judged people based on the content of their character, their intellect, their capabilities and their actions rather than skin pigment or gender...
Heart attack!!!!
