CINCINNATI -- The killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo in order to save a child who fell in its enclosure has sparked nationwide outrage.
Animal activists have created online petitions and Facebook pages after a special zoo response team shot and killed the 17-year-old gorilla named Harambe.

Many are angry the endangered gorilla was put down. Others want the boy's mother to face child endangerment charges, CBS News' Jamie Yuccas reported.
Facebook pages like "Justice for Harambe" are quickly spreading. The Facebook page currently has more than 11,000 likes.
A petition on Change.org asks for new legislation to be passed to protect animals like Harambe. The petition has garnered nearly 4,000 signatures so far.
"In light of the recent tragedy at the Cincinnati Zoo in the death of Western Lowland Gorilla Harambe and the enormous loss of this CRITICALLY ENDANGERED animal, we would like to pass Harambe's Law, so there are legal consequences when an endangered animal is harmed or killed due to the negligence of visitors," the petition reads.

I spent a lot of time on Twitter after this incident happened, and I reported quite a few tweets in which people said they wanted the child and/or his mother dead. And even once it came out that it was a black family involved, not much changed. The overall liberal reaction was to really love and humanize this animal, to be grief-stricken and outraged and demand that someone must pay, and to state that there's nothing special about humans and that there are simply too many of us in the world, so next to a rare, endangered gorilla, the life of a human child didn't matter.
“...after a special zoo response team...”
You know, that’s one thing I never EVER thought existed, even in the middle of the night.
But like a Navy SEAL I’m d@mn glad we have them!
Wouldn’t THAT make an interesting movie; Zookeepers really WOULD be SEAL TEAM SIX. ;)
End of day it was an animal and was killed to protect a kid. The zoo should review if they could do more to prevent accidental events like this. Anyone threatening the family should be charged, convicted, and jailed.
Yes, indeed. Does make sense that they have them, though, with the dangerous animals they have and also all the human visitors. Very good thing they do :)
But now we see liberal journalists have found something that outrages them more than shooting a gorilla - shooting liberal journalists.
Agreed. And in that situation, the left showed they cared much more about a gorilla than a human child. For them, rare gorillas matter more than humans because they don’t like people much and think there are too many of us, and they also don’t think there’s anything special about us. We’re just another variety of animal to them, not made in the image of God.
I don’t know. I think killing the gorilla got more outrage.
And if you recall, next to the gorilla, the boy’s life didn’t matter. I saw that on Twitter, and you can see this from the tone of this article. I actually debated some people that told me that because I thought the zoo was right and put the boy’s life first, that they thought I was probably an animal abuser. And this was through Facebook!
That petition mentioned in the story also ended up with 216,000 signatures.

RE Outrage:
If it wasn’t that incident, it would have been something else.
It was the Liberal Outrage of the week. By the following week, they moved on and found something else to pee down their legs about.
It’s what they do. IOW, they’re f***ing idiots with their heads up their asses.
End of the day: the Kid is alive and well.
Happy ending.
True, but the left considers humans to be animals and the lives of animals to be equal to if not of more value than those of many humans.
In this case, they humanized the gorilla and dehumanized the boy.
So while they’ve outraged about illegal alien children being detained lately, we shouldn’t forget that they actually value the lives of rare animals like gorillas more than they do human children.
My sister was a zoo keeper at the city of Tucson zoo. They kept a loaded .375 H&H mag rifle in the office for such instances. There was always someone proficient in its use on staff at all times.
It makes us ask, what did Harambe know about Hillary Clinton??
It wasn’t just liberals that were on the gorilla’s side. Count this conservative as being for Harambe. The mother should have been jailed, as well as the zoo people.
Species extinction protection values far higher than a human.
That is so true.
The world will not run out of humans.
But grand species is a huge loss.
