New York Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tore into a conservative TV host who tweeted a picture of her childhood home in an attempt to discredit her.
John Cardillo, a host of Newmax's "America Talks Live," shared a picture of Ocasio-Cortez’s childhood home in Yorktown Heights, falsely claiming she lived there until she went to attend Brown University.
“This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University,” Cardillo tweeted. “A far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she’s selling.”
Ocasio-Cortez lived in the Bronx's Parkchester apartments before moving to Yorktown Heights at age 5 to attend a better public school then what was available in the Bronx at that time, according to her campaign website. She later attended Boston University.
The self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist is running as a Democrat in New York’s 14th congressional district, which encompasses the Bronx and Queens after defeating incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley (D) in a stunning primary earlier this month.
Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Cardillo Sunday afternoon, saying she did not attend Brown University or any other Ivy League school.
“I went to BU (Boston University),” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Try Google.”
“My mom scrubbed toilets so I could live here and I grew up seeing how the zip code one is born in determine much of their opportunity,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote, noting that she grew up partially in a working-class neighborhood.

Oh so BU is chopped liver? Try google yourself bitch ...it’s one of the more prestigious schools in the country. Hell, Northern Iowa is a better school than than those way overrated “Ivy League” indoctrination camps.

She won. Her GOP opponent is 72 years old, has no campaign website, no Facebook page, and hasn't even filed paperwork with the FEC to receive donations.

Add to that, I believe the Parckchester Apartments, at least as it was through 1994 when she was 5 years old, wasn't the ghetto either. They are lower middle class to middle class condos. It was considered a good area.

Sorry, i think trying to diminish her credibility this way is a losing battle and looks petty. It didnt work against Obama. Better to relentlessly attack her crazy ideas and platform.

Agreed. I see no harm in rebutting claims of humble background, but that should be at the bottom of the list of issues.
