Former Republican Nominee for President wants to avoid a defeat for Trump's SCOTUS nominee
Cindy McCain has been offered her husband's Senate seat
Senator John McCain will resign his US Senate seat on July 4, 2018, says an aide who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
"In the end, it was about Kennedy resigning from the Supreme Court," said the aide. "Confirming a (SCOTUS) replacement before the election is considered in the interest of the national Republican party, so that it doesn't become an issue for Dems to run on in every race," said the aide, meaning every race for Senate or Congress.
The Aide indicated that the Senator wanted to wait until June 1 to resign, so that his seat would not be on the ballot along with retiring Jeff Flake. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey will appoint a Senator to serve until the 2020 election.
The aide said that Ducey has quietly offered McCain's seat to Cindy, but the 64 year old wife of Senator John McCain has made no decision as of yet. "Understandably, she doesn't want to think about it," he added.

Good news, thank you.
Most news now is either 100% fake or like my tagline...
AND I will STILL celebrate his leaving whether you think it is not worthy of tossing back a few. You can sit and pout.
It’s for effect! BTW when other countries do it, we look at them with contempt and rightly so. It all smacks of nepotism when clearly there could alway be secondary option even if you are trying to bridge the vacuum until the next election.
I know it is temporary but the optics of it all is just not right in this day and age especially with the type of permanent political class we have entrenched in our system. You can always appoint someone else to remove the scent of nepotism. That is just my opinion!
Good point! Tthat is what I was alluding to!
Yup the 17th amendment changed all that. What I don’t get is why no term limits? that seems to run against the grain of the funding fathers who were very concerned with the concentration of power!

I know we have allowed it, but this third-world practice needs to stop.
This kind of stuff gives pols a bad name. Hold a special election and let the people decide.
Heh!
We can leave the seat up for her...
As long as he lives, Cindy vote his will. After that, who knows.
Doesn’t make it right. It’s exactly the thing the founders were trying to eliminate - dukes and earls. Fiefdoms.
The Stupid/Evil Party (GOP).
“Cindy McCain has been offered her husband’s Senate seat”
Hopefully she’s more conservative than her RINO husband.
WOOF, fellow Dawg Pounder....
Let it be known, that I will NOT miss the traitorous old pr*ck.
To me a Senator is nothing but a gloried House Representative.
If McCain’s state doesn’t like her, they can remedy the situation.
She may actually be more reasonable than he was.
She won’t have to long term clout. She wont be able to pull rank. Nobody much will listen when she tries to instigate trouble like he did.
I don’t have as much problem with this as you do. She can’t screw it up any more than he did, and after looking at what Arizona foists off on us, I’m not sure we’d be better off if we took a chance at another way of replacing John.
I don’t believe Dukes and Ears stand for election.
Cindy will have to.
Think of it this way. If she tries to get us to fund and arm the Muslim Brotherhood, play footsies with Al Qaeda or ISIS, she’ll get told to sit down and shut up.
She won’t have seniority. She won’t have the political clout. Nobody will listen when she tries to throw her weight around.
She will be a severely defanged McCain at best,
If true, all I can say is former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich went to Federal Prison for far less.
FREE BLAGO!!
Some people do not understand just him leaving is a celebration.
