De Blasio calls for abolishing ICE

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be abolished, saying that the agency has "become a punitive, negative tool for division," and is "no longer acceptable."

In calling for the agency to be disbanded, de Blasio echoed comments made by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a political newcomer who vanquished Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) in a Democratic primary race on Tuesday.

"You need some kind of agency to deal with immigration, but ICE is not that," de Blasio said on "The Brian Lehrer Show" on WYNC. "ICE has proven it can't be that. ICE's time has come and gone; it is broken. ICE has been sent on a very negative, divisive mission, and it cannot function the way it is."

"So I think Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is right," he added. "We should abolish ICE. We should create something better, something different."

Calls to do away with ICE have grown in recent days amid a public furor over the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy mandating the prosecution of all people who cross into the U.S. illegally through Mexico.

That policy has led thousands of migrant children to be separated from their parents or guardians at the southern border – a practice that has drawn widespread condemnation.

At least 19 ICE investigators have signed a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen calling for the agency to be dissolved and for its work to be shifted to another bureau.

Trump signed an executive order last week allowing children to be detained alongside their parents. But exactly how that order will be implemented remains unclear, because minors are only allowed to be held for 20 days.

A federal judge in San Diego also responded to a lawsuit over the family separations this week by ordering the government to move quickly to reunite children with their parents. Children under the age of 5 must be reunited with their families within 14 days, while the government must reunite older children within 30 days, the order says.

The best way to get rid of a bad Law is to enforce it vigorously.

Of course, I don’t think our Immigration Laws are bad, I think they are weak. I say we adopt Mexico’s Immigration Laws. After all, there are sitting Justices on the SCOTUS who look to Foreign Law to decide Cases.

In my world, every Lamp Post in DC would serve two functions, one of them being to light the Streets.

Maybe Trump should oblige DeBlasio and route ALL the illegal immigrants to New York City or any sanctuary city for that matter.

Flood the cities and let them deal with their magnanimous ideology directly. No other state or federal funding or federal government recogniztion.

He has tried to neuter the NYPD but the momentum of Giuliani and Bloomberg had carried over but as events in the 48 recently have shown that momentum may be grinding to a halt. This could be a bad summer. My hope is that residents of these minority communities have taken the enormous drop in crime as the default situation and as violence rises they demand the Mayor ensure the NYPD does its job. Red Bill may resist but not for long, especially when the call comes from his so called people.

So a socialist and a communist both call for closing ICE, the agency that helps protect and serve American citizens by deporting illegals. Gee, that's surprising.

To these people, separating children from their mothers on the border was horrifying.

So Trump rectifies that with an EO saying the families can remain in tact while being detained.

This is also unacceptable to the liberals.

The only thing they will accept is open borders with no detention at all so illegals, criminals, MS-13 gang bangers, drug smugglers, human traffickers and terrorists can just wander across the line and disappear into the American society without the authorities knowing where they are at.

I believe DeBlasio has tried to make some idiotic changes as far as the NYPD goes and have read that they aren’t going for it, they’re resisting big time.

It’s amazing to me that a socialist like deblasio was elected mayor, I thought New Yorker’s had more sense.
