In my opinion, she would be the best of the five. I have read that Brett Kavanaugh is very close to the Republican Establishment, i.e. another Roberts. Thomas Hardiman is too moderate (one study says he is between Justice Kennedy and Chief Justice Roberts ideologically). Amul Thapar may be OK, but who knows.

You know, I happen to think Justice Clarence Thomas is the strongest, most thoughtful Justice on the USSC. He doesn't speak often, when he does it's damn' powerful. Love reading his opinions too. So well thought through, logic, reasoned, Constitutionally based. I truly believe he's the only Justice on the USSC who's a strict constructionist in the spirit of Anton Scalia.

PDJT would do well to look at Clarence Thomas and determine we need another Justice on the court who's made from the same mold.

Just sayin'.

She won’t become pro-abortion. She is an orthodox Catholic, not a Bergoglian social-justice one.

My money is on either Amy Coney Barrett or Amul Thapar. They are both young and conservative and under established Democrat rules, the Democrats who automatically attack them will either be misogynists or racists.

I like Thapar best at this time but the next pick would be her.

"She'll suddenly become pro-abortion and anti-Second Amendment. "

Difficult to envision a woman with 7 children becoming "pro abortion"...

And orthodox Catholics never become pro-abortion? Please.

I've met people who proclaim to be orthodox Catholics and their one variance from it happens to be being pro-abortion.

What about her complete lack of any position on the Second Amendment - does that concern you at all? It does me.

NO to the Bushies. Don’t need another Souter

Amen. To me, if you are linked in any way to any Bush, the deal's off.

Then save her for the next one, which will be more contentious than this one. Better yet would be a black woman but it won’t matter because Dims always find a way to blast every non-Democrat.

Barrett would be great, Hardiman less so. According to a study I have read, he is only slightly more conservative than Justice Kennedy and less conservative than Chief Justice Roberts. He is not an originalist like Scalia or Thomas.

interesting factoid for Memphians:

Amy Coney Barrett (born 1972), in 1994, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Rhodes College, where she was a Phi Beta Kappa member.

Right now I believe the USSC is 100% Catholic & Jews.

Considering the first people who came over here, that’s super weird.

Not sure there are any sufficiently Conservative 100% Native Americans qualified for the job

Difficult to envision a woman with 7 children becoming "pro abortion"...

Is the measure of how many children a woman has the determining factor of whether or not they'll be pro-abortion?

Sandra Day O'Connor had three children and numerous grandchildren and was the leading voice on the court for pro-abortion "rights" during her term. She was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981 and served on the court until 2006. She was believed to be pro-life at the time of her appointment and rapidly swung the other way.

If you're using the number of children she has as the determining factor of whether or not she's strictly pro-life, your logic is IMO fatally flawed.

She's 46. In a few short years she'll be going through "the change" and as a man who was married to the same woman for 30 years (and divorced) who went through it, the emotional, physical, hormonal and life-changing effects a woman goes through dramatically affects their outlook on life and frankly, changes their opinions on things often doing a complete 180 degree turn.

That's not male chauvinism, misogyny or "hatred" of women in any way, that's just a FACT. That's what happens and any woman would say the same if they were being 100% honest. (We men already know it after living with it.)

What this court needs IS a Strict Constructionist like Scalia and Thomas.

We don't need another "swing vote" on the court! Absolutely NOT! Put a swing vote on the court and the country is lost, period. The time to return to a Constitutionally based Government is NOW, an opportunity like this may never come along again.

I’d like to see Judge Amy stay in that job for more than one year to see more rulings from her.

I, like another female FR poster here, writes “as a woman, she doesn’t trust a woman.....”

Another very disappointing Justice was Sandra Day O’Connor!

Yet another confirmed liberal’s edicts, speeches and writings, Ruth “Buzzy” Ginsberg, who started as an activist liberal we can now firmly state, as a Marxist/Leninist Communist, who reaches out into non-American “laws” to come to decisions on our Constitution!

No, let’s let Judge Amy simmer a while where she is before tapping her for a thirty plus year of conservative decisions or maybe not, please!

As a woman myself, who has very few consistent conservative female friends and associates, in and out of church, let’s stop with the pc, already!!!
