I think the Democrats have basically picked up their ball and gone home. They have withdrawn from any leadership role for the vast majority of voters and instead seem to have decided to lunge Left while trying to force the Republicans to lunge Right by attacking them on any attempt to govern in the moderate way preferred by most voters. The border is a perfect example.
This strategy contains a huge, one might say YUGE flaw, and that is that nobody can accuse Donald Trump of being a starry-eyed idealistic purist. This is no longer the party of George W. Recent events in the Democrat party are just more open evidence of where the party has been going for nearly 50 years. Starting with George McGovern in 1972 the Democrats have marched ever leftward, though keeping their agenda from the public. We have seen glimpses of what the leftist elites think of average Americans...Obama’s bitter clingers and Hillary’s deplorables. Trump’s election has brought out foaming at the mania and the leftists are now openly proclaiming their want for socialism and Bolshevism.
