I think you are right, it is the revenge of the Bernie bots. They will cease control of the democratic party and do what Mondale set out to do 40 years ago, turn it full communist. Plug in the popcorn machine, extra butter, and watch the fun.
This is the next stage of 50 years of identity politics. Previous stages separated people into groups then unified them in opposition to white republicans. In this new stage, the enemy is any white, not just white republicans.
So we’ll start seeing more and more of this as future democrat primary winners will all be CoC (communists of color). Except for the elites and the self-haters (i.e., radical left wing whack jobs), there will be a complete purge of whites from the democrat party within 20 years.
