“This Is A Guy Who Is Going To Come In And Shoot Us”: Warnings Missed On Annapolis Shooter

Marquardt said he wasn’t surprised to hear Ramos identified as the alleged gunman, saying he started harassing the paper and its staff shortly after the 2011 article. The harassment escalated for years with online threats, Marquardt said.

“I was seriously concerned he would threaten us with physical violence,” Marquardt said from his retirement home in Florida. “I even told my wife, ‘We have to be concerned. This guy could really hurt us.’ ”

Marquardt said he called the Anne Arundel County police about Ramos in 2013, but nothing came of it. He consulted the paper’s lawyers about filing a restraining order, but decided against it.

“I remember telling our attorneys, ‘This is a guy who is going to come in and shoot us,’ ” he said.

Woman who was stalked, harassed, sued, and scared away to another state by suspect in fatal shooting of 5 at Capital Gazette in Annapolis told me he became, for no obvious reason, "fixated" with her..caused her to move 3x, changed her name, and now sleeps with a gun.

At which point, I’d be carrying a small pocket pistol at work. I don’t care what the rules are.

In thirty years, I have known two people at work who were complete lunatics who had made explicit, I’m-going-to-kill-them-all threats. But those were different times and there was nobody essentially “giving permission.”

Permission giving. Several years ago a couple of young kids committed suicide on their Pacific island because they were “in love” and being kept apart by their families. Suddenly several other kids did the same thing. Psychologists called it “permission-giving.” Something similar happens when, say, an angry elderly person robs a bank. You’ll see a string of elderly people robbing banks. The copy cats in the school shootings see somebody else doing a shooting as giving them permission to do the same. (That’s one reason why coverage of their names and background should be against the law.)

Might as well have told it to the moon...police could care less.

This is why we carry. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

The police are not there to protect you. They are there to try to find who did it and bring them to justice. Your protection is YOUR responsibility.

This is such a simple concept.

1) These shooters always seem to be on the radar. The government has been informed about them and allows them to operate unmolested.
2) From time to time, the Deep State suffers from bad news in major media outlets.
3) Bad news about the Deep State is regularly pushed off the front page when a known nut-case gets triggered and commits acts of violence which were predicted long ago.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ...

"Marquardt said he called the Anne Arundel County police about Ramos in 2013, but nothing came of it."

Well, damn -- the obvious solution would have been establishing the newspaper office as a gun-free zone, abolishing the 2nd Amendment and confiscating everyone's firearms.

No wonder these things continue to happen... [/sarc]

Cops were called 39 times over several years about the Parkland shooter and did nothing.

And yet they had NO security at the entry! These are the people who claim to know how to secure our border.

Stalking victims - even businesses- have little recourse against the mentally ill - cant blame the police

This is the real issue that needs to be addressed
Identified Deranged people walking freely among us
Posting their disturbed thoughts openly on social media

When is involuntary confinement going to become a public safety issue?

This is also why the ravings of Maxine Waters are so
dangerous.

He blasted through a glass window!

At some point no security is adequate against a cunning deranged man who, obviously reconnoitered and planned his crime

All the people he had threatened were no,longer working there
He took out a sports editor, 3 journalists who wrote community news and human interest features, and an advertising manager

Yup......a large “Gun Free Zone” poster in 20 different languages on the front door could have stopped all this.....

This hits pretty close to home.

About 5 or six years ago, my niece and her co-worker in Denver were harassed by a guy at their office. He was reported to HR and was summarily dismissed.

He came after my niece’s co-worker at her parking garage and shot and killed her. He apparently went back to his apt and proceeded to kill himself.

I am sincerely sorry to hear how your niece was terrorized, and her friend killed. Incomprehensible evil is walking among many of us every day.
Only God’s mercy keeps any of us safe, but I still think it makes sense to remember the ABCs of self-preservation: Get your concealed-carry license (where required), get knowledgable, and Always Be Carrying.

Has anyone wondered yet if the FBI had this guy on their watch list?

I bet they did.

Like all the other recent mass-murderers - I’d bet this Ramos guy was known to authorities.

Thanks for this! I ordered Gladwell’s book
Already learned something
“ The Tipping Point” has I believe insights into the epidemic of mass murder by the deranged

They got his identity from facial recognition data base
Yeah - he was on the radar by some agency
