Vice President Mike Pence demanded that Central American nations do more to stem illicit immigration, charging that few asylum seekers from the region had legitimate claims to safe haven in the United States.
This exodus must end, Pence told a meeting of leaders here Thursday from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras which make up the so-called Northern Triangle that produces much of the illegal migration traffic to the U.S.-Mexico border. {snip}
The vice president called on the Central American countries to take a number of specific steps, including
. removing public advertisements for human traffickers within your nations the last an apparent reference to travel agencies, transport companies and other firms that publicly offer to facilitate trips to the U.S.-Mexico border.

A guy on TV made a great point, most of the asylum claims are made by people who get caught crossing illegally.
Just if they get caught.
The issue is especially bad in regards to Guatemala. Isn’t a lot of MS-13 gang members from that impoverished country?
Thats funny right there.
My family is the least of my problems in that area.
Theyd drag some guy I smoked pot with back in 1976 out, or some women I spent a weekend of debauchery with back in the 80s and that would be the end of my political career.
But it would be a spectacular flame out.
L
That’s an excellent point.
We have rules on how to apply for asylum, and it doesn’t include sneaking over the border and making the claim when you get caught!
So we could deny them asylum simply on procedural grounds.
“we could deny them asylum simply on procedural grounds.”
I think that is what President Trump is pushing for, when he recently proposed that illegal crossers be sent back, without a judge being involved. Such procedures have been used before, but the Left has created a web of rules and court rulings that have created the unnatural condition we were in - unable to legally control our own border.
As you mentioned, AG Sessions deserves credit for his work on many of the traps and snares constructed by the Left to impede immigration control - closing the amnesty loophole will probably be a big impact just by itself. There have been a lot of things that General Sessions has done that have escaped wide notice, but the backlog of cases that have overwhelmed the immigration system (a la Cloward Piven) has crested, and finally begun to recede.
This administration really knows what is doing. The really big things that need to be done though, require Congress. A merit-based immigration system, wall funding, e-verify, welfare restrictions and enforcement authority would dramatically improve the situation. That is the big deal on immigration. I hope the Republicans (Conservatives) do well in the mid terms, so the President can get a deal through Congress during his first term.
I like the sound of President Pence.
He’s certainly Presidential and even my family in Mexico agrees. LOL!
“Isnt a lot of MS-13 gang members from that impoverished country?” (Guatemala)
MS-13 is centered in El Salvador, but it is also big in Guatemala, as are Mexican drug cartels. All three of the Central American countries now flooding immigrants into the USA (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras) are ridden with criminal gangs. They are among the most dangerous on Earth, in terms of violent crime.
Sounds great!
I think after the midterms, Trump will really lower the boom, and not just on immigration.
And I wonder how much of that money is actually from guys digging ditches, cutting grass or doing someone’s laundry. It’d be interesting to see how much of that money is coming directly from the checks that these people are getting from the taxpayer. It’s common that they’ll sell their EBT cards for actual cash. Well, if you have multiple people, in one house, getting EBT/SNAP every month, isn’t too hard to turn one of those cards into an ATM card that you use to fund the family back home.
And then you have them feeding their families back home as well .... https://nypost.com/2013/07/21/ny-food-stamp-recipients-are-shipping-welfare-funded-groceries-to-relatives-in-jamaica-dominican-republic-and-haiti/
Lots of people talk about the rebirth of Dearborn, Mich with all the muslims. What they don’t tell you is that the majority of money is given to them through all the refugee programs and obviously, through Birthright Citizenship, once they pop out a kid in a Detroit hospital. Then the family gets a tidal wave of benefits and cash. Add to that, that one man will have 4 or 5 wives, all collecting checks and benefits, who knows what that math is.
Not only are we funding illegals and fraudulent refugees here, we’re taking care of their families in their home countries. And RINOs like Ryan are more than happy to do it.
North of Atlanta, in the Cumming area, lots of companies have moved in to get away from the traffic in Atlanta. Using H1B visa’s they bring in a lot of tech folks from India. They show up with their ENTIRE family. Put their kids in school. But, what else do they do? They bring their parents over. In Georgia, once you hit 62, you’re exempt from school taxes, so they put the homes in their parents name. Thus, they put a few kids in the school for free. County finally caught on, but nothing was done to the families that were committing the fraud. They should have been given 30 minutes to pack as much shit as they could and put on plane with a, Never To Return Stamp in their passport.
Yes Yes and Yes
Legal ... The IRS has to implement the taxation once the law is codified
Constitutional ... Congress has to pass the tax law that requires the tax and authorizes the IRS to do so
Pragmatic ... None whatsoever
However .............
Congress will never do it, because they want open borders and unlimited immigration for their donors, the Chamber of Commerce, Big Business and down the road, the Dem’s want the voters. Throw on top of that, Western Union, et al, have some deep pockets and good lobbyists that have and will fight this and when no one is looking, pass the envelope full of cash to the appropriate Congressperson or have them on video doing stuff they aren’t supposed to be doing.
And all the while, you, me and everyone else gets left paying the bills.
Its too bad that these days, we cant just do like President Eisenhower did, just round em up and ship em home.
And getting the diseases, watching our neighborhoods turn into toilets, being forced to ramp up security measures against the criminals who manage to slip the system, etc. Lord I hate those people (the ones who foist this onto us while they live apart and above it).
Forgot about the diseases. The ones that were all but eradicated from this country.
And you nailed it on the head. The decision makers aren’t the ones living with the consequences of this. They live behind their walls and are surrounded by security. If their property taxes go up a few hundred bucks in one year to pay for all the “new” students, no big deal for them. They make enough not to care and their kids don’t go to those schools.
And the diseases we never even had before! Hussein deliberately imported people with diseases, like he was determined to make sure that people who dont engage in high risk behaviors, get the diseases anyway. Just evil.
“Pence tells Central American leaders to do more to stem illegal immigration to the U.S.”
Why should they? Would we try and stop the exodus of our filthy underbelly?
I like the way you think!!
trebb, regrettably you are part of the problem. There have been countless proposals that would stem and end the illegals coming. Many of those proposals are and have been posted at FR. Your post is accusatory of United States policy having generated the illegal migration. This accusation is a lie. Look to the illegals home leadership The illegals should fix their countries themselves. The United States cannot save the world but mark my words ... the United States is slow to anger but the United States can be angry. You would not like the United States when we become angry
You have missed the point. It would be useless to explain the point to someone that blames the United States
Kudos blueplum. Your thread exposed a few Blame America First people. My compliments
Saw where your homepage said you served for 20+ years and you joined FR before I did. I pray I read your post incorrectly
