Rep. Keith Ellison and the Council of America-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are quickly reacting after the Supreme Court voted to uphold President Trumps travel ban Tuesday.
The 5-4 decision Tuesday is the courts first substantive ruling on a Trump administration policy. Trump tweeted Wow! after the decision.
Not long after the decision, CAIR, which is the nations largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, announced it will be holding a news conference at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. There will also be a rally at 6 p.m. held in Minneapolis in front of the federal court house, protesting the decision.
Rep. Keith Ellison also released a statement, saying hes deeply disappointed that this ruling gives legitimacy to discrimination and Islamophobia.
Ellison spoke with WCCOs Esme Murphy on Facebook Live shortly after the decision.
This decision is outside of the consensus that we have as Americans that people have the right to be whatever faith they want to be, Ellison said.
Ellison says, despite what the policy is called, its really a Muslim ban.
What the Supreme Court has said is, as long as you put a thin vainer of national security over the most discriminatory policy, well buy it, Ellison said. Essentially theyve said, as long as you put lipstick on that pig, well just call it something else.
Ellison says the travel ban is a big factor in his recent decision to run as Attorney General for Minnesota.
I know that this decision will meet the dust bin of history, just like all those other nasty, ugly decisions [by the Supreme Court], Ellison said.
Senate hopeful Karin Housley issued a statement also Tuesday morning, saying: Todays Supreme Court rulings are a victory for the rule of law and the constitution but also highlight the importance of the upcoming elections. Over the next several years, the U.S. Senate will likely confirm one or more justices to the Supreme Court, and with such a narrow Senate majority, Novembers elections may be among the most consequential in our lifetime. We cannot allow far-left radicals like Tina Smith to pick our next Supreme Court justice and as a United States Senator, I will advocate for Supreme Court justices that respect our constitution and uphold our rule of law. At this critical juncture in our nations history, adherence to our constitution has never been more important; our freedoms, our safety, and our security as a nation depends on it.
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion, joined by his four conservative colleagues. Roberts wrote that presidents have substantial power to regulate immigration.
Roberts wrote this? Maybe he is free from blackmail now, Q?
Suck on it, Keith.
Suck
on
it.
I live a mile north of you in the next burb. I go to EP all the time. Second largest population of Skinnies in the state.
You have Menards and Home Depot right across from each other. Huge apartment complexes right next door full of muslims. Do you ever seen one of them working at those two places? Nope. Makes you wonder why.
I have friends out in St Cloud. They are moving because they are being over run. The cops don’t do anything if a muslim gets out of line. It’s a cultural thing so it’s ok.
CAIR is unhappy?
BWAHAHAHA! What a *snort* SHAME, that CAIR is *sniggle* unhappy.
He’s sad because Muslims cannot continue to flood the country and turn it into yet another cesspool that Islam creates.
Burnsville, Apple Valley...
Does this put Ellison on TSA’s no fly list? Wouldn’t that be great?
Sadly, he was born and raised in this country. Grew up Catholic.
Obama’s plan to darken and deChristian Minnesota
Trump appointments already showing returns.
“”””Burnsville, Apple Valley...”””””
Apple Valley was originally named Lebanon. They changed the name back when suburban sprawl took over as it sounded so much better. I have been there a thousand times. Never seen an apple tree and it is on top of the glacial hill.
Only the cemetery still kept the name.
ESAD Ellison.

I know that this decision will meet the dust bin of history, just like all those other nasty, ugly decisions [by the Supreme Court], Ellison said.
Upholding the rights of citizens — protecting Americans from terrorists lying about who they are, sneaking into our country as they’ve done many times — is ugly and nasty?
Thinking Americans agree with POTUS and SCOTUS.
Right-they hate us like the plague... but want to come here?
They can whine and cry all they want.
It is the law of the land. As it was before this bogus case.
It is a political system that is poisonous to any free society, since its main aim is to replace that free society's form of government with Islam, at the point of a sword if necessary.
Islam should be stamped out as the disease that it is in every country that desires to live in freedom.
millions sent to ***holes like Somalia came from welfare fraud: some of the Somalians were sending out tens of thousands of dollars worth of remittance payments.....sucking off taxpayers,by pocketing US government assistance 24/7......How could they possibly come up w/ big bucks to transfer to Somalia? Its welfare fraud under multiple identities. In Minn, its all about daycare.” Five years ago Fox 9 Investigators reported daycare fraud was on the rise in Minnesota, exposing how some businesses were gaming the system to steal millions in government subsidies meant to help low-income families with childcare.
Dig deeper and you’ll find the “refugees” are using multiple identities.....AND borrowing each other’s children to maximize the daycare fraud.....and to get EITC checks.
And why does Ellison mention that? This case has nothing to do with religious freedom as such. The liberals distorted it by calling the travel restrictions a Muslim ban.
Nice how they assimilate, isnt it?
Somali Police Association in Minnesota---getting dental work, I hope.
One of their Somalis colleagues killed a girl without provocation.
They come to the great melting pot of America then proceed to set themselves apart.
United they stand AGAINST America sucking up tax dollars.
The arrogance is palbable....lookit the smirky one with the thingy on her head.
