CHICAGO A division of the American Library Association has voted to remove Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from a major children's book award over concerns with how the early-to-mid 20th century author portrayed blacks and Native Americans.
The Association for Library Service to Children's board made the unanimous decision Saturday at a meeting in New Orleans. The name has been changed to the Children's Literature Legacy Award.

Her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, was a conservative too.
I think Fahrenheit 451 was about this exactly. When will they burn that book?
Well, since blacks have rioted, burned cities, businesses, looted, killed, maimed, raped, stolen, defaced, cheated, whoremongered, plagiarized, et al
No streets, buildings or holidays should be named for mlk
Twain couldn’t have been “racist”: he was a strong liberal in his day.
Sorry, I see someone else had already made this point.
From the map it looks like the Aztecs got up to Kansas. I never knew. < /s>
‘’These Happy Golden Years’’ is really great reading.
She never portrayed them in a negative light.
She recounted factual, historical happenings.
If that makes them look bad, which it doesn’t, it’s not the fault of the messenger.
1984
Now they have been reprinted and some words have been changed...including the way Dinah used to speak in her southern black rhetoric and diction... LOL......
1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual.
Let us burn the Little House on the Prarie books comrades. Tom Sawyer is next.
I have a copy of her "Discovery of Freedom" on my bookshelf now. It's been a while since I reread it. You can download it at https://mises.org/library/discovery-freedom
C’mon get happy.
OTR shows like Fort Laramie, Have Gun - Will Travel, and Gunsmoke will get purged someday.
If they remove all the published references to how the majority treated minorities in history, then they can treat white conservatives just like that and nobody can say, “Hey, that just like years ago when . . . “
HO LEE FUK.
Clearly they have not actually READ all of her beautiful books. Pa Ingalls was extremely respectful of the Indians but also had the sense to know how to protect his family.
1. In the winter where the town nearly starved and froze to death, Pa had noticed both the animals and the Indians preparing for a very bad winter. He made some changes accordingly which may have saved his family. An old Indian came into town to warn the men sitting in the General store, telling them that something was coming that hadnt been seen in many years (the Indian had the number of years also).
2. When Pa was gone and some male Indians came to the house where Ma was alone inside with a baby, Laura was outside and the dog was chained to the barn. She was with the dog. She was terrified for her mom and thought of letting the dog off the chain but she heard her Pas voice in her head saying never to release him from the chain. So she did not. The Indians kept asking Ma to make corn etc for them, ate their fill, then left, taking some tobacco too. Pa later praised Laura for minding him, telling her that if she had let the dog loose, he might have harmed one of the men and they might have returned and killed the whole family.
3. RE Black people. The only time I remember any mention is when the family were dying from malaria. None could get up to get water. They were just lying and dying in their cabin. And Laura remembers a magical man with a black face feeding her something bitter and she got better. They all did though I believe there was a son never mentioned in her story who died. And research was done: there was actually a black medical doctor at the time who traveled from town to town in that area helping people. He saved their lives.
SO WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT??
I love those books and so did all my kids. You can learn more about the American pioneer spirit from those books than anything in school.
Librarians must not have had to take Lit 101 because it is standard to write a paper in accordance with the time the work was written. Major pet peave of mine is the same standard is not kept in writing about the constitution.
For the most part, American librarians are over-the-cliff marxist activists.

All of them are, even little sweet Miss Janey. A number of years ago I asked for a printout for the books my young children had checked out so I would not repeat subjects in our homes schooling
Sweet Miss Janey told me that she wouldn’t do that because it would be breaking the child’s confidentiality. I was shocked.
Then I realized that the librarians are part of the leftist challenge to parenting children.
Our town library has few and fewer patrons. I will be on the committee to have them shut down.
Rose Wilder Lane is considered one of the founders of the Libertarian Party.
One thing I hate about the New Deal is that it is killing what, to me, is the American pioneering spirit. I simply do not know what to tell my own boys, leaving school and confronting this new world whose ideal is Security and whose practice is dependence upon government instead of upon ones self.... All the old character-values seem simply insane from a practical point of view; the self-reliant, the independent, the courageous man is penalized from every direction.
