Kansas officials are continuing to enforce a proof of citizenship law that a federal judge recently deemed unconstitutional.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Wednesday that staff for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has directed county clerks to continue requiring voters to present documentary proof of citizenship.
One county clerk said she was instructed to continue enforcing the policy "as we have been."
Danedri Herbert, a spokeswoman for Kobach, told the news outlet that state officials still need time to fully understand the courts ruling on the law. She argued that the judge did not provide a clear timeline for when Kobach had to instruct county clerks to implement the policy.
I think immediately is kind of open to interpretation, she told the Capital-Journal.
In Monday's 118-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson wrote that the states requirement that voters show proof of citizenship during registration violated both the Constitution and the National Voter Registration Act.
Robinson struck down the stringent law, and ordered Kobach to take six additional hours of continuing legal education that pertain to federal or Kansas civil rules of procedure or evidence.
In an earlier court order, Robinson had held Kobach in contempt for skirting court orders related to the law and failing to send postcards confirming registration for thousands of voters.
Kobach, who personally defended the law in court, is running for Kansas governor. He was a former vice-chairman of President Trumps now-defunct voter fraud commission.
“Now let him enforce it”
“She argued that the judge did not provide a clear timeline for when Kobach had to instruct county clerks to implement the policy.”
True. LOL
Good. States are supposed to run elections, not the feds.
A very good move!
If we don’t start pushing back they are going to bury us....good on Kobach.
Isn’t this being appealed?
Not only does it make Kansas ground zero for election fraud, it becomes a precedent to cite in other state actions. Not to mention, it appears to conflict with a Supreme Court ruling that allowed another state (I forget which) to purge its voter rolls if people who hadn’t voted didn’t respond to multiple requests for re-registration.
How many army divisions does the court have?
Yes, I know...

This is over the issue of proving citizenship when registering to vote, this idiot judge ruled it’s unconstitutional to require proof of citizenship.
Little doubt that it will be appealed by Kansas SoS Kobach.
The federal government can do as it pleases. Why can’t Kansas? I hate “The Hill” so much.
Where is the appeal?
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Have the State Police lock the Judge up for Treason.
Good.
This ruling is bound to be over turned.
It’s stupid.
Citizenship is REQUIRED for voting.
Thanks for the clarification. So, according to the constitution, citizens can vote, but non-citizens cannot; but according to the judge, it's unconstitutional to inquire and determine if a voter is a citizen.
Legal logic at its finest.
Kansas to federal judge: DROP DEAD!
The ruling: Husted v. A. Philip Randolph Institute
The State: Ohio
Dont Mess With Kansas!
Can’t this judge have Mr. Kobach arrested and put under ankle chain the way the son of Jim Bunning did for the KY clerk, Kim Davis?
