The White House stated that President Donald Trump actually supports Speaker Paul Ryans plan to offer amnesty to children of illegal immigrants in exchange for modest border security proposals.
The President fully supports both the Goodlatte bill and the House leadership bill, White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah told reporters in a statement.
Shahs remarks clarified Trumps comment in a Friday morning interview on Fox and Friends that he would not sign the more moderate bill on immigration, which is the leadership version of an immigration compromise with Republican moderates.
The presidents remarks threw House Republican leaders into chaos for most of Friday afternoon as they tried to clarify his position. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise told Breitbart News that he would not whip votes for any bill not supported by the president. The president has not personally endorsed the Ryan bill.
Shah insisted that Trump was actually referring to the discharge petition signed by moderate Republicans and Democrats to force a vote in the House on DACA amnesty.
He confirmed that Trump would be willing to sign either bill proposed by Republicans. He would sign either the Goodlatte or the leadership bills, Shah said.
Speaker Ryan is expected to call a vote on both bills next week, although neither of them is likely to earn enough of the 218 Republican votes needed to pass the House.
The nearly 300-page bill proposed by Speaker Ryan would offer amnesty to at least 1.8 million DACA-qualified illegal immigrants as well as amnesty for about 75,000 children of temporary foreign guest workers in exchange for $25 billion in wall funding and a temporary reduction to legal immigration.

A number of folks here saw Trump state he’s going to veto at least one of these bills.
It better be both.
Take votes Lets see which of the RINOs and Chamber of Commerce Amnesty conservatives (e.g., Mark Sanford, who has been defeated already) need to be PURGED.
If Trump has a death wish, he’ll allow one of these bills to pass.
This is the same guy who leaked the rumor that Sarah Sanders was quitting.
The Trump Amnesty offered a path to citizenship for 1.8 million DACAs in exchange for The Wall, for limited Chain Migration, for cancellation of the Green Card Lottery, and for merit based legal immigration.
The Goodlatte Amnesty mandates universal E-Verify.
The Ryan Amnesty and the Trump Amnesty don't even mention E-Verify.
Trump, if you grant amnesty before you build our wall, you’re done.
Trump supports what they said the bill will be. I suspect he might have to walk back that statement when he sees the actual bill.
So who would you vote for in 2020...the Democrat?
Would say that limited progress has to be contrasted with the probability of steady worsening of the border security and immigration situations under any alternative administration. Some political compromise may be needed to get any gains long-term. The long game is to restore the legal foundation of immigration and to set it at levels that will best blend with economic goals. A key element of the long game is re-election in 2020. Nothing will happen overnight in this complicated business, but change could accelerate if the make-up of Congress changes for the better in each successive two-year election cycle.
The President is fighting an uphill battle against the aging factor of his support base and needs to create momentum towards broadly supportable goals that will widen the voting coalition faster than actuarial reality erodes it, a tough challenge.
The status quo - since the 1986 Reagan Amnesty - is to ignore the immigration laws that are already on the books.
The Immigration Act of 1965 gives Trump unchallenged authority to deport every DACA in the country.
Instead, Trump is going to make them citizens.
I think this is the same rope-a-dope the President tried last January.
IOW, he knows there’s not enough Republican support for either bill to pass without Democrats jumping on board. But if the effort fails, Trump gets to remind the media and the voters that they could have the Amnesty they want if Democrats accepted the trade-off. Democrats won’t go for it so Trump will have a campaign issue, a powerful one.
So, don’t worry. I think Trump won’t get either deal. He’s just posturing to have a campaign ad for the midterms.
The president has not personally endorsed the Ryan bill.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ryan is trying to leave Congress with a cloud of flatulence.
He is horrible as Speaker of the House.A progressive , elitist a44hat,assuming a faux morally superior position( Roman Catholic I might add, the Pope does not believe in borders) in violation of the security of the USA.
No, Ryan is out and his idiocy is out.
The Republicans control Congress. USE IT YOU GUYS! Or lose it!
I don’t know what’s up with this statement. I do know that the first time I ever saw Raj Shah speaking as a White House spokesman, I saw big red flags. I got goosebumps — and not in a good way. Don’t trust the guy; never have and probably never will.
If they pass amnesty, it no longer matters who you vote for.
Unfortunately yes. We will need a violent revolution to have any hope at all and that is unlikely.
Agree. I get a very bad vibe from this guy.
K street wrote it . Why did Trump allow Raj to Back Peddle his comments on a Friday night ?
So few people can see it ?
Trump had that treason Stopped Yesterday .
Why breath new life into a Ryan K street Amnesty on Friday night?
What happened to his demand for the 4 pillars ?
Ryan give none of that !
Paul Ryan is his enemy .
Why betray the Voting Base before the Midterms for Ryan ?
We don't need stinkin Amnesty Now before the Midterms.
Trump should leave a disasterous Amnesty DOA!
Too funny! So many snowflake concern trolls - so little understanding of reality....
