Original plan called for $50 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods; retaliation likely Reuters A worker walks among containers at the port in Shanghai, China. The Trump administration, deepening its global trade offensive, is preparing to levy tariffs on tens of billions of dollars of Chinese goods in the coming week, perhaps as early as Friday a move that is likely to spark heavy retaliation from Beijing.
Senior trade officials in the White House, the Commerce and Treasury departments and the U.S. Trade Representatives office met on the issue before President Donald Trump went to a summit of the Group of Seven industrialized nations in Canada on Friday and agreed that the U.S. should proceed, said U.S. officials and others briefed on the talks.

Short stocks, or find stocks of companies to help in the rebuilding of North Korea?
How to short Venezuelan assets?
Trump, a lot of people are watching this very, very closely.
You won, partly because you correctly got riled about the issue.
EVERYONE has been sold out, forever.
Republicans. Democrats. Everyone. Basically every single politician in America but you, and Bernie Sanders.
You won last time.
Because you won a lot of Republicans, and also a number of Democrats.
China has been badly taking advantage of America for a long, long time.
$375,000,000,000 trade deficit just last year.
A new all-time record.
In a long series of year-after-yearly new all-time record highs.
It is rising yet again this year.
Trump this is in large part why you won.
Stand up on this issue.
If China had to stand on a more even basis with the world, it might find that it can’t even afford to stay Communist.
An expression that I see increasingly more often on the face of our President is an expression of stubbornness. That’s good. That’s very good!
He knows why he won and what the right thing to do is - maybe if you formulated things in Haiku it would sound better.
American companies in love with cheap Chinese labor will not be amused.
The President has said trade wars are easy to win. I hope he’s right.
He may have something there. With a deficit as large as we have with China (and others), it's pretty easy to figure out which country stands to lose the most...it's the one currently taking full advantage of inequity.
Even Communists can do math.
Yeah, but China doesn't have to worry about voters whose costs go up and whose jobs go away. It doesn't have to worry about corporate donors whose stock prices tumble and profits evaporate when the economy goes into a downturn. Trump and Congress do.
Trade wars are like any other wars. There will be casualties, pain, and suffering. The winner will be the one who can take it better. Will that be us?
Short stocks? Hardly. Other than an emotional reaction (fear) those with sense will know they can turn a profit (greed). Imposition of tariffs on foreign companies wont hurt the stock of US firms. Yes, there are those that may have to raise prices in response to more expensive Chinese parts of products but that would be an even playing field for all companies. Our current booming economy can handle a small, temporary increase in inflation which is still low. There would be no better time to do this. You run the risk of a bear trap if you short.
What China has to worry about is the new, rich business class. Dont underestimate their ability to begin a coup of their own.
I don't over-estimate it either.
I wonder how this affects our large debt to China via loans. We don’t here much about that topic anymore.
China to make RFID chips mandatory in cars so the government can track citizens on the road.
Cars operating in the country will be adorned with radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips that the government will use to track drivers throughout the country. Compliance will be optional for the first year but will become mandatory for new vehicles starting in 2019.
The system will mark a sizable expansion of Chinas already massive surveillance state, which the government seems intent on monitoring every aspect of its citizens lives. The nations law enforcement agencies have already littered cities with surveillance cameras in both private and public spaces and earlier this year shared their intention to combine them into a single network, called Sharp Eyes, that will be linked to facial recognition technology and artificial intelligence capable of tracking and surviving individuals.
You should change your FR name to “Maintain the Status Quo” ... That seems to be your inclination on a variety of subjects.
Yes, so much better to keep my head buried in the sand or look at the world through rose-colored glasses as others do, right?
Everything is always couched in terms of $$$. That is irrelevant
Show me the Harmonized Tariff Numbers to be relevant
You are one of the most negative persons on this board. Every post is always tilted towards “it can’t be done;” It can’t be changed;” “Why something bad will happen.”
Your viewpoint illustrates a constant negativity about everything and anything President Trump does or attempts to do.
The fact that you were, from the beginning (and still remain to be, in my opinion) a hard core “never-Trumper” is not lost on me either.
So, spin it how ever you want.
I’ve got your number, Missy.
