Who knew avocados were so dangerous?
On Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” co-host Joy Behar revealed she had to miss work Monday because she’d sliced open her hand cutting an avocado.
“Saturday night, on my way to the event at the retreat, I stabbed myself in the hand with a knife,” she explained. “I was trying to desperately eat something, so I was trying to open an avocado. So I stuck the knife into the pit to get it out … and I stabbed myself!”
At the hospital, where the 75-year-old stayed overnight and was administered an antibacterial drip to ward off infection, Behar was told that this sort of accident happens all the time.

Would an “Antibacterial Drip” be an intravenous antibiotic? You know. Those things we peasants aren’t supposed to use to save their effectiveness.
I have a great avocado tool ( one end extracts the pit, the other end slices and then removes the slices ), that I bought about 30 years ago; they aren't a new gadget at all and it works very well. And you can get them from many different venues at all price levels. :-)

Saw the headline and thought the ER was needed to remove the pit out from her tush.
Honestly, I am not a fan of avocados even though they say they are good for you..to me they are slimy and nasty but in this one instance, GO AVOCADO!!! and GO KNIFE!
It was the first thing that came to mind. So she stabbed herself in the hand...BIG WHOOP...that's absolutely NO reason to keep her overnight with a drip in her arm! And frankly, I've never heard of such a thing happening to anyone else.
Am overnight hospital stay and an iv drip for a knife wound to the hand?

i don’t like them either but i am putting my faith in them to do the right thing. ( and the knife!)
My money was on the bacteria ... but that was before the drip.

Please tell me it was going 90 MPH and thrown by a big league pitcher.
I bet she is really something to see at Golden Corral.
And no one with a mere (or even nasty) cut is going to be hooked up to a drip for 7-8 hours!
If true, the hospital denied a more worthy person a bed for the night.
Cut avocado in half. Cut half again, into quarters.
Skin peels off easily.
Pit also comes off easily WITHOUT ANY TOOLS.
