Who knew avocados were so dangerous?
On Tuesdays episode of The View, co-host Joy Behar revealed she had to miss work Monday because shed sliced open her hand cutting an avocado.
Saturday night, on my way to the event at the retreat, I stabbed myself in the hand with a knife, she explained. I was trying to desperately eat something, so I was trying to open an avocado. So I stuck the knife into the pit to get it out and I stabbed myself!
At the hospital, where the 75-year-old stayed overnight and was administered an antibacterial drip to ward off infection, Behar was told that this sort of accident happens all the time.

In America, ALL small boys, until they reached 14 or so, are referred to as "MASTER" so & so on an envelope addressed to them, as all unmarried girls and young women are "MISS". And yes, when sending my Grand a handwritten note or letter, I ALWAYS write "MASTER" XXXXXXXXXXX. Okay, so I might be a tad old fashioned, but there are rules and it's what I was brought up knowing and doing.
And in upper middle-upper class households, here, servants refer/referred to boys ( and even young adults, when the father is still alive & girls, as MISS, this way verbally, too )until recently. No, I'm not sure when that all changed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it no longer holds true.
Very, very sad story, but an interesting one.
My sincere condolences to the poor avocado.
She’s lying. Plus, you don’t get cut, rush to the emergency room and get hooked up to a drip. You go to the emergency room, get treated and are sent off with a script for antibiotics in case of infection. She probably waited until her hand got infected and then went. But overnight? Maybe the nurses were fans of The View.
I’m glad to hear that the avocado is OK.
Cutting avocados actually is one of the main causes of kitchen knife cuts.

I was thinking along the lines of Ben Wa-camole...
I was rooting for the knife.
Well...it depends; they WILL give you a drip, in the ER, but never for a just cut hand! And she claimed she" had stabbed" herself, not "cut" her hand. And having stabbed myself, once, getting an avocado pit out ( my ring finger, not my hand, for which I just put some Bacitraycin and a bandage on the offended part and never went off to the ER and never suffered an infection, or worse! ), many, may long years ago, there has to far more to this crazy story!
And this is NOT anything that ANY hospital is going to keep someone over night for; especially if this was a NYC hospital!
OMG....they kept her OVERNIGHT for this???? MOST NORMAL people would be out in 20 minutes...FORCED OUT!!
She’s 75? They must use a putty knife to apply her makeup before the show.
“OK who else was rooting for the avocado”
lol!
I always hold avocados in my hand while I’m cutting them in half. But you really have to be clueless to try stabbing the slippery, round pit while you’re still holding it.
She had to stay OVERNIGHT?!! She must be real high maintenance.
You’re letting them get overripe.
The Perils of Guacamole Brain in progress.
she needs to attend a knife safety course or hove her knife handling permit cancelled.
Who would think a 75 year old woman desperate for something to eat before going out would choose an avocado
