It has been said that when an American President is down in the polls, he launches a war. It is almost guaranteed to raise his popularity. One merely has to look at the wars that the Kenyan Nobel Prize Winner launched or the Yugoslav war launched by BJ Klintoon!

In Kanaduh, our current PM's father (though not necessarily his DNA supplier) succeeded in starving and gutting our military decades ago. As we have no military to start a 'shooting' war, instead the PMO brain trust have decided that Kanaduh should start a trade war with our biggest trading partner. THAT will rally Canadians around the Lieberals. There are enough 'sheeple' in Kanaduh who WILL fall for it. Unfortunately, for many Canucks, the one unifying sentiment is being anti-American.

Our economy is in the tank and now Dunstbunny (formerly known as Dustbin) has succeeded in getting PDJT totally POed. Tariffs on Canadian made vehicles will kill a very fragile economy. Thanks, Trust-fund Dustbunny!

Canada better hope History Channel renews The Curse of Oak Island. At the rate Trudeau is going that show might be a significant chunk of the GDP.

“In 2016, over 10 million MT of
steel, worth over $11.8 billion,
was traded between our two
countries, with Canada shipping
$5.87 billion to the U.S
(5.4MMT), and the U.S. shipping
$5.96 billion (4.7MMT) to
Canada.”

That’s from a Canadian source.

I’m not sure if things have changed.

US/Canadian trade conflict is usually confined to paper and wood products from trees from government land in Canada.

The dairy product situation is bad.

Canada slaps massive tariffs on US dairy exports to Canada above quota limits.

I think the tariffs on both Canadian steel and US dairy products need to vanish and I think the US should formally make such an offer to JT.

sorry to hear that ... i guess i just assumed that the revving up of the U.S. economy would have at least some positive effects for Canada ...

Isn’t one of Donald’s stories from his youth about walking into a room and watching Justin’s Mum get drilled at a Manhattan party?

There was an article yesterday that talks about how Trudeau has spent a fortune the last 18 months on lobbyists lobbying American lawmakers for policies favorable to Canada. It would be very interesting to see a list of the lawmakers targeted.

I can’ really say I know much about the argument the trade deal is unfair or not. I have some opinions but will keep them to myself out of respect that we are guests on a US site.

Trudeau is deciding to fight back because he was doing horribly in the polls. He knows Canadians will rally behind him. As for the conservative parties around Canada, they are playing it safe here. They want to be “on side” in any battle against Trump because Trump is a toxic name - like it or not - in Canada. All politics.

The courageous position would be for conservative parties to plead with Trudeau to stop the rhetoric and make a schedule of a number of meetings with Trump to work on trade. Better yet, Trudeau should remove himself from any discussions, and it should be the Trade Minister sitting down with US counterparts.
