UPDATE: Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) office has provided Townhall the following statement regarding last year's attack.
"Before Senator Paul was violently attacked from behind, he had no conversations or discussions with the attacker. There was no 'longstanding dispute.' This description is untrue. It is impossible to have a dispute when no words of disagreement were ever spoken - neither immediately nor at any other time before the attack occurred. In the decade prior to the attack, Senator Paul had no contact with the attacker.
The attack was a pre-meditated assault that broke six of the Senators ribs and was complicated by fluid and blood around the lung and recurrent pneumonia. Any description of this attack that implies a yard dispute justifies such violence and misses the point."
ORIGINAL POST
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was left with six broken ribs, including three displaced fractures, and months of intense pain that felt like 1,000 knives after his neighbor attacked him last year. The assailant, Dr. Rene Boucher, attacked Paul while he was mowing his lawn. The senator had just stepped off the lawn mower and was wearing silencing earmuffs and never saw or heard his neighbor coming.
Contrary to original rumors, Boucher's attack on the senator was not about politics. He was upset about yard debris, according to new court documents. From the Associated Press :
It said the disagreement over yard debris dates back to September 2017, when Paul piled a 10-foot-wide (3-meter-wide) stack of limbs onto a spot near Bouchers property. The pile sat until October, when Boucher picked it up and hauled it away in portable dumpsters.
Even though this debris was not on Dr. Bouchers property, he viewed it as unsightly as it was placed directly in his line of sight from his patio and the back door of his house, the court record said.
Two more piles of debris appeared in the same month, and Boucher burned the pile on Nov. 2. Boucher used gasoline and suffered second-degree burns that he needed treatment for, the memorandum said.
The next day, Paul used his lawnmower to blow leaves onto Bouchers yard and then made another branch pile in the same spot, it said.
As Dr. Boucher has stated throughout, he lost his temper and tackled Rand Paul as Paul was carrying branches from another location on his property and placing them on the property line, the memorandum said.
Boucher, formally requested to be placed on probation in court on Friday. Special Prosecutor Bradley Shepard had his own request: a 21-month prison sentence. Sentencing is this Friday.
What I did not realize was that while the growing pile was out of sight of my back deck/grilling area, it was a bit of an eyesore for my neighbor as he could see it clearly from his back deck. One day, he had us over for a barbecue and casually asked what I had planned for the pile of brush that I could now clearly see from his yard.
He didn't have to say another thing, the very next weekend, I got it out of there and directed my raking to another area. That's just how decent people treat each other.
There is of course no excuse for the assault on Rand. However, I'm suspecting that Rand likely engaged in some a-holery, if you know what I mean. You know, like what he does on the senate floor sometimes when he's holding up some Trump-related legislation to make some obscure point.
I think it’s a failure to communicate on both their parts, they never actually talked about it to each others face.
I can't imagine these two doing any yard work period. They would probably hire an illegal alien to do it instead and for less than minimum wage.
Thanks for relating that, you and your neighbor did exactly the right thing.
I think you’re right about Paul and Boucher also.
Throw a net over him and take him away someplace where some guys can dress him up in one of those special jackets with the extra long sleeves and a nice Viennese gentleman can ask him questions about his mom and stuff and then reason with him.
There - because if either of those folks actually lifted a finger to do real work - the media would melt down... because it just won't every happen!
Perhaps the community regulations forbid a permanent structure, hence the pile of yard debris. It’s easy to explain if someone asks (I’m so sorry about this, but you know my legislative schedule has been soooo busy this term. I’ll take care of it as soon as I can.) In the meantime, it conveniently blocks the neighbor’s line of sight into his yard. And should the neighbor take matters into his own hands and clears it away, it’s easy to replace!
Sounds like Paul has a neighbor who does not understand the concepts of “private property” or “mind your own business”.
Very strange. I have a neighbor who has a meltdown if my apple tree dispenses a fruit into his yard; but he hasn’t tackled us yet.
Yes to all.
Is that being hidden?
Also yes.
LOL what movie is that from, it looks old. That scene must have been straight up Pornography in its day.
So, this idiot uses gasoline to commit arson on Rand Paul’s property, but sets himself on fire instead. And somehow it’s Rand Paul’s fault?
He might enjoy riding around on his tractor. He probably has a Kubota or some expensive commercial type mower. I have a John Deere tractor and find it relaxing. Plus those tractors have cup holders too. :)
It says he had head phones on. So, he was riding around, listening to some tunes or the ball game perhaps. He gets off his tractor and his neighbor blind sides him because Rand had piled brush on his own property.
I agree even though some days I would like to beat up the Senator myself.
Other days I agree with him. He’s a mixed bag unlike his pal McCain who I believe I now despise more than Mr. 0 and Hillary.
At least zero did what others had indoctrinated him since boyhood to believe and along the way lots of marijuana helped also. McCain is simply for McCain.
Cool Hand Luke...Great movie

Kind of a symptom of culture - when neighbors don’t even talk - it just sets up problems.
Personally - I want to know my neighbors. We don’t have to be buddies/friends/etc (though that can be kind of cool), - but at least know who lives around so you can look out for the neighborhood - and avoid not only crime and such - but hurt feelings over stuff like this.
Rand Paul is a lousy neighbor, so’s the other guy. Seems like Rand Paul was intentionally baiting the guy. I’d let him off with probation and send them both to anger management counseling.
Yep, and Kennedy was great in it too.
