The Florida government did not conduct background checks on thousands of applicants for concealed weapons for a year because the state employee was unable to log into the system.
According to a February 2016 investigative report from Floridas Inspector General, first reported by the Tampa Bay Times, a state Division of Licensing employee identified as Lisa Wilde was unable to log into the system to actually complete these background checks. She never mitigated this issue.
When determining eligibility for purchasing a firearm, applicants must undergo a background check known as the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is administered by the FBI. In Florida, these background checks are used as indicators of eligibility for concealed weapon licenses.
In March 2017 over a year later an employee with the Bureau of Licensing realized the NICS records were not being reviewed. The report was issued in June of 2017.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, applications for concealed weapons permits in Florida at this timewhich coincided with the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando that left 49 deadwere at a record high.
The report concluded Wilde as negligent in failing to send over these background checks. The Division of Licensing is housed under the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service. Adam Putnam, the commissioner of that department, is now running for Governor.

A YEAR!? Couldn’t solve a login problem for a year? Government.
Maybe she was too busy playing solitaire?
Load of crap is correct. Background checks were done. Someone else pointed out that the step involved in this brouha-ha was not obligatory under Fl statute but was an extra step made at the Department’s discretion. FDLE also runs checks. Main point no one died or suffered injury because of this lapse and the checks did commence once the problem was brought to light.
The MSM wants us to believe Putnam let untold number of criminals and unstable individual get CCW permits; hence those people went out and massacred scores of nursery school children and puppies all the while waving “I Heart NRA” banners.
Or to where I first saw reference to the subject:

And still people expect the government to solve all social ills.

Yeah but they’re sure sure trying to imply that the pulse night club wouldn’t have happened, maybe, had the checks gone through so Alex Putnam doesn’t deserve to be Gov. Or something.
Obviously stronger gun control laws are needed. /s
Its OK, they're going to transfer her to managing your health care instead.
Whew. I feel better already. Get it?
Anybody remotely involved, especially management, should be immediately fired. Those who can be prosecuted should be.
There are plenty of reasons to vote against Putnam in the primary he is an open border never Trumper that said, this is BS.
Why would Florida’s background checking system bottle neck at one state employee? Who can’t log in? And especially if that person’s input is not required for complete processing of the form?
That sounds like a system that was designed to fail.
...has anyone been fired yet?
In the end, the state was forced to revoke 291 permits and fired state Division
of Licensing employee Lisa Wilde, who said she was unable to log into the FBI
database to complete the background checks.
Thanks. I know that will put some folks minds at ease.
