ON A GOOD DAY
Our worth is tested every day. We are given the choice of being nice to people or uncharitable. We are given the choice of doing our work as well as we can or of goofing off. Some days it seems the tests are harder than on others, but every day brings with it some kind of test. Even the really good days! To have everything go wonderfully for us, to feel like a million dollars, to have one of those days when nothing and nobody can upset us, they are days when we might think we don't need God. And so we pay Him little attention. MISTAKE! BIG MISTAKE! We must never forget our good days are God's gifts to give us a breather, a taste of heaven. "Make no mistake about this," writes St. James, "Every genuine benefit comes from above, descending from the Father of the heavenly luminaries." Good days are made in heaven. Be sure to thank God for them. CDR Gary Simons, CHC, USN

A Warm Welcome
June 10, 2018
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
1 Peter 4:9
Who will hug everybody?
That was one of the questions our friend Steve asked after he got the news that he had cancer and realized he would be away from our church for a while. Steve is the kind of man who makes everyone feel welcomewith a friendly greeting, a warm handshake, and even a holy hug for someto adapt an application from Romans 16:16, which says, Greet one another with a holy kiss.
And now, as we pray for Steve that God will heal him, he is concerned that as he goes through surgery and treatmentand is away from our church for a timewe will miss out on those welcoming greetings.
Perhaps not all of us are cut out to greet one another as openly as Steve does, but his example of caring for people is a good reminder to us. Notice that Peter says to offer hospitality to one another without grumbling, or in a way that centers on love (1 Peter 4:9; see Philippians 2:14). While first-century hospitality included offering accommodations to travelerseven that always starts with a welcoming greeting.
As we interact with others in love, whether with a hug or just a friendly smile, we do so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 4:11).
Lord, help us to represent You to others. Guide us to show hospitality in a way that will show others Your love.
When we practice hospitality, we share Gods goodness.
In 1 Peter 4, the apostle challenges the church to hospitality then reinforces that challenge with a call to service (vv. 1011). In verse 10 he reminds believers that weve received gifts for that very purpose, and as we utilize those gifts in serving others we become expressions of Gods grace. It appears from these statements that Peter is giving his readers a glimpse into the realm of spiritual gifts about which Paul wrote in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12.
Spiritual gifts are the Holy Spirits provision for equipping followers of Jesus to help one another (1 Corinthians 12:7). While Paul offers a more extended list of these gifts, Peter compresses them into two basic categories: speaking gifts and serving gifts (1 Peter 4:11). Both provide support and resources for the kind of hospitality described in todays devotional. As we encourage people with the Scriptures and help them by acts of service, the family of God is strengthened and the hurting are helped.

True... bliss is a harder test of our soul than misery. To whom will our soul ascribe the glory? If we gravitate to our natural selves, it will be to us, as though we had deserved it. But we could not deserve it.
Blessed be the name of the Lord, through thick and through thin.

Great meditation...we make dozens of decisions for or against Christ every day.

Let us all pray that we will trend in the right direction.
The best Christian, whoever that may be, has to deal with a past that was defined by the world.

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7 & 8

Thanks so much, Kathy, remembering to give thanks to God for our blessings should be easy, but it’s not always.

Hi radu, haven't 'seen' you the last couple of days, must be a busy girl!
We've cooled down and had a rain storm go through last night.
Went over to son's today to visit and see the pups. The little wild guy just loves his attention still but is quite a loving little guy.
We've had a cute lil' kitteh, (with a collar), come over and adopt our small apartment building as a hangout, demanding petting and lounging/sleeping in the patio chairs, I'll have to take a picture of her.
