Last month, April, 2018, the California Department of Justice raided prominent Kern County Farmer, Jeffrey Scott Kirschenmann. The justification for the raid was pictures the farmer had sent to the Department of Justice in an attempt to register a rifle. The DOJ claimed the rifle was an illegally modified Assault weapon. During the raid, the DOJ confiscated 230 rounds of ammunition, a dozen guns, two objects claimed to be silencers, and some sort of trigger activator.
There is reason to be wary of the accuracy of the claims of what was found during the raid. California law is very complex. California law enforcement officers have been known to make mistakes about what is an assault weapon and what is not. Silencers can only be determined with a test to see if the devices actually reduce the sound signature of a firearm. There are many fake look alike simulated silencers on the market. From kget.com:
Retired KCSO Commander Joe Pilkington is a court recognized firearms expert. He could not speak directly to Kirschenmann's case but says the laws are changing so frequently, it's often hard to keep up with the latest regulations.
Just in the last few years, there have been lots of changes in gun laws, he said. Making an effort, a good faith effort to comply with these really complicated laws, should count for something.
A new state law requires assault-style weapons be registered by the end of June.
Pilkington recommends anyone who isn't sure about the process go through a federally licensed

This is a sign that ca has gone full left. It is implementing all the left’s desires and wishes. It has become fascist, repressive, totalitarian, and unfair.
I said a million times, that the left wants to take guns from non-violent citizens and leave them in the hands of violent criminals.
I’ll add this: by passing laws, they declare innocent people to be criminals and arrest them, destroying their lives, and this is their intention. They have no intention of destroying criminals’ lives, only honest peoples’ lives. The governor writes his name on a paper, and the troops swoop down on innocent, non-violent, law-abiding citizens and ruin their lives.
At no time do they ever think of taking guns from criminals, or of destroying criminals’ lives with false prosecutions.
You think this is the land of the free?
Why would anyone attempt to comply with California forearms law without consulting an attorney first. Similarly should my state pass some license or registration law I would not ever try to comply. Let them find me...I won’t help them.
You know it!

Seems people need to seriously challenge all of California's gun laws vis-a-vis the US Constitution. I do not understand why they are allowed, why Californians are so gullible and complying, to allow their rights to be abridged and denied.
“During the raid, the DOJ confiscated 230 rounds of ammunition, a dozen guns, two objects claimed to be silencers, and some sort of trigger activator.”
And if they were told to shoot the guy on the spot they would have. These kind of cops are nothing more than street muscle for filthy politicians. DOJstapo.
I for one am going “California Compliant”. I’m not going down that road.
Just in the last few years, there have been lots of changes in gun laws,
Americans constantly waking up and finding they are now criminals in their own homes, having done nothing illegal in the past.
No mans life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session. -Attributed to Mark Twain, but maybe Gideon J. Tucker, 1866.
Situations like this cause me to be reserved in my sorrow and disapproval of the assassination of California police officers. Those who associate and band together with tyrants should be treated to the rewards of tyranny.
+ 1. Goes for most cops in all areas. Just my opinion that they are toll extorting muscle for sleazy politicians.
They dare not confront real criminals or they could end up dead, maimed, or permanently in hiding.
We have our own Third World country right here in the US.
“I for one am going California Compliant. Im not going down that road.”
Me too! And FWIW my “featureless rifle” is a lot more comfortable to shoot with the Thordsen stock than it ever was with the collapsable one that it came with. Plus, the Lantac Dragon muzzle brake I replaced the A2 with, actually works and I shoot much better groups with it. And the other plus is that I could do away with the “bullet button.” I know it’s all “useless $hit” but now the Legislature has put itself in a box on the AR.
“Why would anyone attempt to comply with California forearms law”
This is the first example I am aware of. Everyone else up and down the state has never given compliance a second thought.
Which should be of enormous concern to politicians, cops and prosecutors throughout the state.
Yes, and a CA Compliant rifle can now have a detachable mag. The gun grabbers would have been better off keeping the BB.
The Bullet Button...
First Mandated then Outlawed.
Makes one’s head hurt.
Generally this has "only" lead to the confiscation of the rifle, to be destroyed. (And any attached accessories and optics, if the agents are ****s.)
In the farmer's case, he apparently had a room full of bullet-button-less evil-featured ARs, high capacity magazines, suppressors...
The agents hit the jackpot in this case.
