I didn't mind the swimsuit competition when I was in pageants. But it was used to body shame us.

I used to shrug off the feminists who made a big deal about the swimsuit competition in pageants being sexist; I believed my mentors in the pageant world that, like in body-building competitions, swimsuits just allowed contestants to show off their inner confidence and judges to assess our physical fitness. But after participating in pageants, I’ve realized that the idea that the swimsuit segment is just about fitness is completely false: It’s about whether or not you fit a certain, antiquated ideal of the “perfect woman.”

So, hearing the news that Miss America will forgo the swimsuit competition, I shed no tears; they will not be alone in the pageant universe.

The entire pageant world already realized that old school pageantry is dying off, especially since the people who watch at home want a well-rounded, relatable human being as their winner. Some have held onto the old ways because they could - and the organization through which I came up, Miss USA/Miss Universe, has been one of them.

Of course they want a well-rounded woman as their winner.

That’s why they had a swimsuit competition.

Well, that's one vote.

I guess we will find out what the other millions of votes look like (oops, is that sexist? ;-) ).

Pssst. It’s not antiquated.

I was never a fan of the pageant and saw it as “soft porn” for all intents and purposes, so I get her complaint. Still, it’s a bit like saying she’s glad the strip club she used to work in won’t have strippers any more.

Of course, it also means it will go out of business.

***WARNING***

NBC = Nothing But Counterfeit; Nothing But Crap

Please, more Leftist bull sh#t.

Don’t believe these Lying Leftist Media outlets that proved themselves during the 2016 campaign to be operatives of the DNC and intentional liars. They are presumed to be lying and we should presume what they publish is a lie. The presumption can only be rebutted with the outlet providing clear and convincing evidence they are not lying.

If this story is true and has some redeeming value, at least get the story from a reasonably reliable source, not from a known Lying Leftist operative posing as a “news” organization. You’ve done the Patriotic Right a service. Much better than the mindless repetition of lying sources and their lying headlines.

If we’re told a lie, don’t repeat it. Neutralize the lie by speaking the truth. Lies aren’t defeated by repeating the lie. Lies are defeated by repeating the truth. We should have our eyes on the prize - in this case, politically, what it takes to recover our Free Constitutional Republic. That should be what we major on and focus on.

Antiquated? I think not. Like the Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said in 1964 about pornography, I may not be able to define the perfect woman, but I know it when I see it.

Only a matter of time until there is a 200 lb. transgender crowned Miss America. Maybe they will change the name to “It America”.

...correct. Sex sells dumbass. People will not watch a bunch of fat lesbos with hairy arm pits no matter how much “inner beauty” they have.

Body shaming? They have nothing to be ashamed about otherwise they wouldn’t be there.

Pageants should state what the alleged attributes of contestants are and how those alleged attributes are objectively measred to determine winners.

I haven’t watched the network TV news since...since...since...can’t even remember—it was that long ago...

How old is their average viewer these days—must be older than me... :-)

No one is forcing these zipperheads to do anything. As far as I know, being in a pageant is voluntary.

Search for the list of advertisers to judge the audience to which they appeal.

Remember when Lawrence Welk was on and his advertisers were Polident, Poligrip, Geritol, Tums, Alka Seltzer, and other assorted "Senior" products.
