Unpopular gas tax could be issue in California governor's race

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —

San Diego businessman Jon Cox may be the underdog in the governor’s race, but Republicans believe Democratic opponent and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is vulnerable because of his support for an unpopular tax.

If there’s one issue that resonates with Republicans, it’s the repeal of the gas tax in California. On Wednesday, Cox made a point of blaming Newsom for the 12-cent hike at the pumps -- even though Newsom, as lieutenant governor, was not involved in the legislative vote.

“He wants to defend the gas tax,” Cox said. “I'm leading the effort to repeal the gas tax.”

Newsom does support the gas tax, as he declared during a May gubernatorial candidate debate in San Jose. Newsom said the tax would raise $52 billion for road repairs and infrastructure improvements.

“We need to continue to invest,” Newsom said last month. “I applaud the courage of the legislative leaders, and I think we should do the right thing and extend that gas tax.”

He repents the worst of it. SF democrat. No protection of citizens against illegal violent criminals. Homeless aggressively running sections of the city. Excess spending. He’s jerry Brown without the zealotry

Cox NEEDS to campaign hard on illegal immigration AND taxes, CA. residents are FED UP with both!!! To actually have a republican on the ticket is just short of a miracle!!! I believed whole heartedly our choice would be Viaragosa and Newsome, I am starting to believe that Californians are rising up and FIGHTING BACK, FINALLY!!!!!! We had better be at the polls in droves come November because you can bet these bastards will try EVERY KIND of voter fraud imaginable!!!!!

Newsom is a new age leftist, from the leftist kingdom of San Francisco. Brown is Reagan compared to Newsom.

There is an undercurrent of widespread anger. I can sense it. But if Cox don’t pull it off, it’s going to get near impossible to live in CA for the working middle class. No joke. Much worse than it is now by a series of magnitudes.

Donald Trump was “unlikable” too and he won in blue states Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He won light blue Iowa by 10%

I dont find Cox unlikable. He may be short on charisma, but when it comes to issues that Californians are pissed off about, the issues are in his favor.

He just has to come up with a way ti articulate what he would do differently than Newsome to reverse the unlivable condition the state has become.

“He ran for public office before as a Democrat”

That is fake news spread by the Villaragosa people in attempt to get Cox’s support to abandon him and allow Toni V to sneak into 2nd place.

“Everyone I talk to is looking to leave California. Hopefully, Cox can stop the hemorrhage of California caused by the State’s corrupt Liberal politicians.”

Well, we’re staying! Actually, the exodus, if we can believe the “all-knowing Texans,” is all “Liberal crap” that they don’t want showing up on their doorstep. I hope they’re right, because then, as they move on to find another place to take a $hit in, things will likely get better here. The problem Liberals have is that they are unable to acknowledge that it’s their presence that creates the problems they end up not liking, so they head on to “greener pastures” in search of a place that has yet to experience “them!” They are like the people who fart in elevators and point their fingers at the other guys.

“Cox should ram this up Gavin’s a$$ with a hot poker.”

Wasn’t he the Mare of San Fran Sissyco? He might like that.

Too bad Jon Cox is such an unlikable weirdo.
Otherwise we’d have a real shot here.

As a state resident, you’ve certainly seen more of him than I have. But, from what I’ve seen (albeit limited), I like him and am impressed at his political skills.

Gas tax? Wait until the new water rationing rules go into effect. You cannot wash clothes and shower in the same day.

“Wasn’t he the Mayor of San Fran Sissyco? He might like that.”

He was, and he was married to Kimberly Guilfoyle at the time. Maybe we should, now that she’s evidently knocking boots with Donald Trump Jr., ask her to tell everyone he was a lousy lay!

Amazing how so many people in the lying media seem so closely connected to those in corrupt politics. I find that a bit disturbing.

The DemRat politicians all over the US have been
referring to taxes as “investment” for a long time

How on earth is that policed. Water bill over a certain amount, it incurs a penalty? Of course one could wash one’s clothes in the shower (badoom tish).
