CNN projected Republican John Cox will finish in the top two, and advance to the general election in the California governors race.
Cox, a San Diego businessman, was endorsed by President Trump. Republicans feared they could be shut out of the governors race in November, which could have depressed GOP voter turnout and adversely affected the party's congressional candidates.
Former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was attempting a political comeback in the race, but will fall short of making the general election.

I don’t care what anyone says. This race is winnable.

I hope Villaraigosa hangs his head in shame
Poor Antonio Villaraigosa... you know if Los Angeles County or the whole state of California only had SOME WAY to confirm who was or was not on the voter rolls? If only there were some for of IDENTIFICATION that someone could carry with him or her to the polling place... if only, eh :)
Seriously! This could be the year minority conservative voters save California.
Bunch of people, myself included, had our driver licenses in hand when we entered the polling place. No problem with showing ID. Poll worker even said “thank you” (last time it was “You don’t need to show that”).
Maybe Antonio can spend more time studying for the Bar Exam.
And it was just two weeks ago they said it was a given the top two would be Newsome and Villaragosa.

I plead the 5th. LOL
That man sucks Cox. I left out the coma. or did I?
HA HA!
Someone has already updated Wikipedia.
Should be a very, very good race.

Dem. Rat Newman from Fullerton looks like he will be recalled for being the deciding vote to increase the gas tax. Leading vote getter to replace him is a Repub. Ling Ling Chang Pick Up for State Senate! Young Kim, Repub. looking strong in North Orange county, Distric 39, good chance to hang onto Ed Royces (retiring) seat come Nov.
Interesting.
From his wikipedia entry:
Originally a Democrat, Cox became a Republican later on, serving on Jack Kemp’s steering committee in 1987.
Like...
Reagan. Like Trump.
Interesting.
Young Kim? Is he Korean? That is great. I live in a heavily Korean district in L.A...even ran into one of the (unimpressive) Democrat state assembly candidates for my district outside coffee shop today. We need more Korean-American Republicans stepping up. Especially on local races.

Chang was apparently the incumbent in 2016 who got swept away (but by less than 1%) in the anti-Trump, pro-Hillary wave in CA. So while not technically a rematch, this has the flavor of one and is probably a key contributor to the success of the the effort to recall Newman. This was the OC electorate’s chance to reverse its mistake in 2016.
Shall JOSH NEWMAN be recalled (removed) from the Office of State Senate District 29?
Yes 27,341 62.4%
No 16,481 37.6%

A little more news out of California, though not from one of the big races: Judge Aaron Persky, who gave a lenient sentence of six months in jail to a Stanford swimmer who raped an unconscious woman, has been recalled from office.
Trump can continue to help Cox out by tweeting in support and also pointing out the ways Newsom has wrecked San Fran and then all of California. Liberals may hide behind their so-called enlightened political correctness and elitism but...no self-respecting Californian wants to live in a “sanctuary state” and have homeless encampments on their sidewalk (which is what is happening)...
