Clinton came under fire early Monday after a testy exchange with an interviewer about whether or not he should have privately apologized to Lewinsky.
During an evening event later that day, Clinton revisited the conversation and defended the public apology he gave in September 1998.
"The hubub was I got hot under the collar because of the way the questions were asked," Clinton said Monday night, referencing his interview on NBC's Today Show earlier that day.
"I think what was lost were the two points that I made, that are important to me: the suggestion was that I never apologized for what caused all the trouble for me 20 years ago," the former president said. "So first point is I did."
"I meant it then and I meant it now," he continued. "I apologized to my family, to Monica Lewinsky and her family, and to the American people before a panel of ministers in the White House, which was widely reported. So I did that, I meant it then and I mean it today. I live with it all the time."
"The second is that I support the #MeToo movement and I think it's long overdue and I have always tried to support it in the decisions and policies that I've advanced," he said Monday evening, at an event held at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City.

LOL I can’t remember now that it has been so long ago, but I wonder, afterwards, did he end up putting that cigar in his prez library? Did he smoke it? Or did Monica get to keep it?
dhimmicrat apologies don’t count.
Aw shucks! Bless his heart! #MeToo!!!
Bill supports women!
I think Bill is crying out for everyone to recognize that he was married to Hillry for all these years. #MeToo
We just talked about our grandkids. I don't have no grandkids, but if I did, you know? Then we talked about how I was going to be nominated for the next SC position opening up when they get done killing another justice...
If he got hot I’m surprised he didn’t whip it out and pull (pardon the pun) a Harvey Weinstein.
Bill better get used to being under the bus.
I thought the questions were axed in proper English.
Slick is still trotting out that old “I’m right on the policies, and therefore immune to criticism of my behavior” defense. Got to hand it to the old Geezer... he’s still brazen as ever. Shame nobody is buying it.
The Starr Investigation failed to follow the money. It got side-tracked into the morality issues that, in the minds of Democrats, didn’t figure into “High Crimes”.
You didn't snitch on me did ya Harvey?
His apology was as sincere as a hookers smile.
Put some ice on it Bill.
Love it! Whatever Hillary thought she had going just got a bit more banged up....Bill will finish the trip to oblivion....
