PORTLAND, Ore. Two employees of a bakery in Northeast Portland were fired earlier this month for denying a black woman service because the business had closed.
"Back To Eden Bakery" released several public apologies and statements following the incident, before letting the employees go. In one Facebook post, the bakery's co-owner wrote, "We are doing business in a gentrified neighborhood in a racist city within a racist state of a racist country.
In one statement, "Back To Eden Bakery" says that according to its own surveillance video, a black woman named "Lillian", who is well known in the area as a "professional equity activist", entered at 9:06 p.m., after the bakery's closing time. Employees had also turned off the "Open" sign, but several customers (all white) who had already ordered were still inside. Two other white women who went to the bakery two minutes before "Lillian", and were also informed that the business was closed for the night.
The bakery says "Lillian" left the store briefly and began recording video.
The bakery's statement says that even though it does not consider the employees to be racist and that they were following the business's protocol of closing at 9 p.m., they were fired because "sometimes impact outweighs intent." The bakery also says in the statement that the way the employees went about denying the woman service, "lacked sensitivity and understanding of the racial implications at work."
In the statement "Back To Eden" says the employees were fired because the woman and the "clamoring public" demanded they be fired.
In one statement, the bakery admitted that the employees did not necessarily do anything wrong, "this is more about how a black woman was made to feel" at the business.
(these) statements have since been deleted.
the employees may be able to sue the bakery for discrimination against them because they are white, the bakery owners have admitted their bias.
i worked in a food shop/ bakery for awhile. It closed at 9:30 pm, and i can assure you we did not re open for anybody. Ever.
ha ha great post. I could see that actually happening, the libs are so absurd now they have almost gone beyond parody.
> the employees may be able to sue the bakery for discrimination against them because they are white, the bakery owners have admitted their bias <
Hmm...come to think of it, you might be right.
In my next of the woods a local white newscaster was fired after she posted something about black-on-black violence on Facebook. So she’s suing, arguing that a black newscaster wouldn’t have been fired for posting the same thing.
Of course, suing is one thing. winning is another.
I'm glad Cubs Fan posted it since I missed the other two. They were probably different sources, too.
Sort of related was the May 14, 2018 report that a white man went berserk at a closed Burger King and stripped naked in protest against lack of service.
Commentator said maybe he believed the Burger King in full costume slept there at night and only got out of bed to wait on someone pounding on the glass and yelling.
white newscaster fired and suing....
She was firmly destroyed for “racism” for this actually good opinion. Like Chicago, so many blacks are killed but no one is supposed to express sympathy or outrage or anything.
Anyone who's been to Portland knows that this is delusional. Or an outright lie. I guess it's the Big Lie theory at work here.
Thank you Starbucks for setting such an absurd precedent.

We are, in a way, living in a country something like Brezhnev’s Soviet Union. You won’t be executed for saying something that can be seen as politically incorrect. But your career will be ruined.
The tyranny of the few.
Thank you RWA.
They WERE different sources. also an administrator has told me they are okay with reposting stories after several hours but you should try to reference the original posting. (four hours if I recall, I should ask again though)’
When threads die down people often don’t see them.
I think it is like the blacklisting era, but ten times worse. how do you destroy free speech in country with a first amednment? Threaten people's livelihoods and they will keep quiet.
Good point. if you have a mixed inner city jury and you are white you will probably have a hard time prevailing no matter how good your case. or if you opt for a bench trial you could get a kook liberal judge like the ones trying to screw up trumps policies all the time.
“In one statement, the bakery admitted that the employees did not necessarily do anything wrong, “this is more about how a black woman was made to feel” at the business.”
What spineless a-holes. I hope they are sued for wrongful termination and go out of business.
What is unforgivable is people are losing their jobs for following the rules. Welcome to Bizarro World.
Dont be fooled. Its not about black and white, rather its about the Left manipulating everyone into making it about black and white. We are free individuals. The Left wants us to be no more than members of different tribes with little identity beyond that.
Closing the store and not allowing in customers after hours is a security measure. It is the vulnerable time when money received is at it highest level. It is a good time to rob, close the doors and have free reign uninterrupted by incoming customers.
the employees are probably racist now.
Portland, The Bay Area, L.A. (area), and Seattle; the West’s cradles of leftist insanity. Living there as a normal person would be like living in Hell.
