Tom Cruise has heralded the start of shooting on Paramounts long-anticipated Top Gun sequel. Cruise tweeted an image late Wednesday featuring his character, Pete Maverick Mitchell, looking at a fighter jet down the tarmac.
The teaser image for Top Gun: Maverick, which Cruise also posted on his Instagram page, featured the legend Feel the need, a reference to the original films legendary quote, I feel the need the need for speed, accompanied by the hashtag #Day1.

Kay, maybe a C-5..?
Man, Hollywood really is running out of ideas. I wonder if we’ll see a sequel to The Seekers? Or maybe The Maltese Falcon...
Somehow I “don’t feel the need” to watch this movie when it comes out.
Headin’ riiiiight into the DIABETES zone..!
The big question is will Ice be there?
Will Maverick still be writing checks his body can’t cash?
Police Academy 7. It is about time.
Moi aussi! Actually, there aren’t many that come to mind currently or recently. Can’t remember the last time we entered a theater.
You'll maybe believe that HIGGINS is a sassy hot British blonde who kicks the a$$es of CIA contractors..?
Well that's TRUE.
Prediction: He names his plane “Goose”
Perhaps Anthony Edwards can do the the Obi Wan Kenobi ghost mentor thing.
Will they bring Kelly McGillis back to hit on Mav’s girlfriend?
Will Val play an overweight rock star?
Will the pattern sill be full?
This will be a disaster. The original hasn’t aged very well - in 1986 it somehow tapped into the zeitgeist. As for the actors... Val Kilmer is no longer the young idol, Rick Rossovich disappeared, Kelly McGillis came out as lesbian, Goose was killed off, Merlin became the a**hole Tim Robbins.... Need I say more?!
Yeah just like Star Wars: The Prune Juice Awaits.
Look at the bright side. Maybe the writing staff from Rosanne might pick up some work.
It may be a sequel. But at least it's not a reboot and it has the original actor.
He got to marry Joanne Whalley after they starred together in Willow.
The movie “Stealth” had eye candy, but little else except for a concept which detracts from the Top Gun concept...a technological reality for the next generation of fighters.
It will be interesting to see how he’ll pull it off.
GAAAAH...!
