In order to have a permanent United States military presence in the country, Poland is willing to put in as much as $2 billion, a defense military proposal by the latter claimed.
The proposal comes a month before the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit begins in Brussels, and is another push in Polands desire to have American troops in the country. Poland has expressed this need since its entry into NATO in 1999; however, the current urgency is due to Russias annexation of the Crimea region.
Following Russian invasions in Georgia and Ukraine, countries in Central and Eastern Europe are concerned that they are next in Moscows crosshairs, the public document stated.
Regarding the need for American military, the document mentioned, This proposal outlines the clear and present need for a permanent U.S. armored division deployed in Poland, Polands commitment to provide significant support that may reach $1.5-2 billion by establishing joint military installations and provide for more flexible movement of U.S. forces, while adding it was willing to share the burden of defense spending, make the decision more cost-effective for the U.S. government and allay any concerns for Congress in uncertain budgetary times.
Polish news portal Onet, which first obtained the document, reported the ministry sent the proposal to the U.S. government, Congress and to American think-tanks.
Apart from detailed maps of the future military bases, schools, hospitals, etc., the document also revealed how the funds can be used, such as for the construction and renovation of social, communication and military infrastructure.
The disclosure of the document did not sit well with all.
Janusz Zemke, former Polish deputy defense minister, said: Of course, these issues should not be public. In this case, one should also distinguish evidence from naivety...

Anyhow, how about we sell them our weapons and provide training instead like we do with Israel? Let Poland build up their own military instead of depending on ours.
I think the Poles realize that having us on their soil creates a sense of security from Russia that merely building up their own military would not accomplish. And I’m sure Putin would not be amused. But at least if we did it, we would be in a country that would probably be grateful, unlike Germany.
Cool. More than some folks offer and Poland does no even have a base yet. Of course 2 billion is a small price to pay for security.
After making fun of them for years, the World should listen intently to the Poles. They speak with conviction, having been oppressed by Fascism, then by Communism
If anyone appreciates freedom, it’s them
Simple. Take every man and machine out of Germany, where we’ve protected them for 70 years and where they do not respect us, and move our military to Poland, which has been a friend of the USA since the Revolutionary War.(Check out Tadeusz Koscuiszko and Casimer Pulaski.)
I would do both.... an active base and arm and equip them. I love Poland and they were done wrong by the rest of the world in the last century.
Yes but I think over time they will be just like Western Europe ungrateful and more Socialistic.
I understand why we initially provided security after World War II. We did not want to see Western Europe go communist. That made sense. However, we made the mistake by not requiring them to incrementally strengthen their own military and rely less and less off of our military.
We could sell our latest weapons. Which would be great for our companies. It would strengthen our Allies. Perhaps even arm them with nukes? Yes Russia would not be pleased, but Poland would not have to worry about invasion and could defend itself.
I’m not in favor of creating even more dependency in Europe. Instead, we should consider closing our remaining bases in Germany and possibly the rest of Europe.
How about we lift out of troops from S. Korea ?
I remember Lech Walesa, after he was elected president. His first action was to come to the US to thank Reagan personally.
He made the comment, and repeated it several times, that if Puerto Rico doesn’t want to be the 51st state, “we do!”...
We could sell our latest weapons. Which would be great for our companies. It would strengthen our Allies.

Wasn’t that one of the ‘great’ things about NATO?
One size fits all— if say WE changed the ammo, ALL had to change— so pols could ‘line’ their pockets while Arms Manufacturers etc could entice leaders and reps to change so ALL would have to.
get out of germany
Haha! Now that would piss off Russia.
$2B plus lots of Polish brides.
Agree 100%
I’m old enough to remember when Polish jokes were as common as water.
Interesting to see they are among the smartest of the European nations.
How about we shut down most of our presence in Germany and relocate to Poland.
Germany has already gone over to the Dark Side.
Poland is trying to hold back the invasion of the Shitholeians.
Poland has been a 100% loyal ally of the U.S. since the American Revolution.

No one in Europe appreciates what the US did for them in WWII more than Poland.
They should be an even bigger trading partner than they are. Good people. And they refused to buy in on the immigration poison pill. SMART.
Now that’s one European country worth defending. I agree with others about pulling our troops out of Germany and moving them to Poland. Putin would probably not like it but too bad.
