If there is one person on TV who should have the good grace not to raise the issue of the right of a private-sector entity to control speech within its domain, its Joy Reid.
As the host of an MSNBC show, Reid has a notorious history of shutting down, correcting, reprimanding and even defenestrating conservatives who say things she doesnt like. For example, when a Republican referred to the Democrat party, Reid reprimanded him:on this show, we say Democratic, warning him that were going to have to sit down. Were going to have a talking-to. Reid similarly shut down another conservative who had the audacity to speak of illegals. Other examples of Reid stifling conservative speech abound, as here, here and here.
So it would be the height of hypocrisy for Reid to suggest that the NFL might be running afoul of the First Amendment with its new rule that could result in fines for teams whose players kneel during the Anthem. But that didnt deter Reid this morning, who said:
The First Amendment argument is complicated because its not the government thats preventing speech, its these private organizations, which also happen to get a lot of money from the Department of Defense.

Joy Reid has a notorious history of shutting down conservatives on her show who say things she doesn’t like. But that didn’t stop her from suggesting that the NFL might be violating the 1st Amendment with its kneel rule.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
I don’t think you have much of a first amendment right at work. I can’t wear a MAGA shirt to work.
When you are an employee, usually the boss gets to call the shots. If the over payed assclowns don’t like it, I double dog dare them to go on strike. It sure won’t affect me at all. They gone. Too little too late.
WTF is a joy reid, and what makes it think its opinion trumps the Constitution and the sometimes rational Supreme Court??
She doesn’t understand that the 1st Amendment is a restriction on government and not businesses. Businesses determine what they feel will affect their bottom line and act accordingly.
Because she’s liberal, and on MSNBC, she feels her statements trump the Constitution. That’s how the leftist mind works.
on this show, we say Democratic
My response would have been the Democrat Party wasnt very democratic in the last primary season, was it?
With a big smile.
Moron, they’re employees in the workplace and their employers putting reasonable restrictions on unpatriotic assholes is perfectly constitutional. Have their employers put any restrictions on their speech or threatened them with repercussions for exercising their right to speech in a non work forum?
Kneel all you want. Im watching college football this year.
I very much doubt that you could wear a Che Guevara t-shirt and quote the Communist Manifesto while manning the counter at McDonalds.
She is an object lesson for all. Congenital liars begin by lying to themselves. Then, lying to the world is easy and carefree.
Unless there’s a franchise in Havana we don’t know about! ;-)
Judging from the responses in this thread, neither do most FRpers.
After all of her anti-gay remarks, she is still on MSNBC? Hmmm....
Precisely! I’ve had to explain this point to numerous leftists.
To the Libs, free speech is what they say it is — or isn’t.
At this point, we dont give a krap about nfl. We will never patronize them again until they fire the insulting commie basturd players and hire decent Americans
Left wingers have ZERO ROOM to talk about the First Amendment, Bill of Rights, anything in the Constitution
These idiots need to study up on the 1st amendment. The NFL is an employer and THEY have the right to make this rule. Sure, the players have a right to protest. But their employer has he right to take action against them if their protest breaks a rule. The 1st amendment does NOT guarantee freedom from consequences.
