I suggest people read Alvin Toffler's The Third Wave. One chapter, "De-massifying the Media," became shockingly prophetic because it predicted changes the communications technology would make newspapers and periodicals obsolete. And guess what? The Internet and now touchscreen cellphones are just doing that.

Excellent analysis and commentary.

You should send it to your local paper and see if they print it.

(snort). I do crack myself up at times. I do.

Poor Alamo, your men died in vane.

It was the Mexican Army that overwhelmed them, not the weather.

If you had gone to Mi Tierra in the Mercado, you wouldn't have disparaged the place. The Riverwalk is a bit touristy for my taste, but we love the city.

I like your summarization. Everything good about newspapers was destroyed by madcap liberals and the Asspress.

“The Riverwalk is a bit touristy for my taste, but we love the city. “

As a tourist I loved The Riverwalk and we stayed at La Mansion del Rio which was right there——had a GREAT time and the best steak that I have ever eaten(don’t remember the name of the restaurant.)

You still live in MA? Whenever we can, we stay at the Drury Hotel on the Riverwalk. Great rates, and it's walking distance to most everywhere we want to go.

Last time we were there, I learned that there are priests hearing confessions at the Cathedral, starting at 10 AM. One of the best sessions I ever had, there was plenty of time for a meaningful conversation.

Hope you had the chance to dine at Mi Tierra, best tortilla soup in the land, and the atmosphere is even better.

There were actually two papers here in SA - the E-N and the Light. IIRC, the E-N bought out the Light about 25 years ago. Neither paper was ever that good.

When I was a kid I used to work at the local candy store ...
Me too - one hour a day ($1), six days a week and two hours on Sunday.
We did all the inserts on Sunday @ 6am and the two I remember most were the Daily News and the Times. Hated the Times even back then :) I'd go home black as coal.
When I moved to Rochester I asked if there was candy store in the neighborhood and they pointed me to a Fanny Farmer's. Oy.

Thanks for that info-—yes,I am still in MA but I’m afraid my traveling days are over.

That one trip to Texas was visiting friends who lived just north of Houston and two places I wanted to see were San Antonio because of The Alamo and Galveston because of the hurricane history. I had a great trip.

All print news is in danger of disappearing in favor of smartphone delivered custom news....................

...

I remember reading an Arthur C. Clarke book and him mentioning a custom newspaper read on an electronic screen. It seemed so far into the future back then.

Ah......the grammar rangers are back in the saddle making Texas safe for illegals.

Don't get mad at me for pointing out the "Lone Star State", is now the "Taco Stand State"

Sorry to burden you with the truth.

I remember reading a sci-fi novel back in the 70’s, I forget who wrote it, that the plot was about a guy that the ‘government’ wanted him to do something for them.

He refused, so the government made all his ‘money’ disappear. He saw the numbers on his ‘watch’ count down to zero of his balance....................

The rags in my part of PA have all been bought up by USA Today.

Now most of their material on line and in print is generic that could be found in Anypaper, USA.

Most of what passes for local “news” are endless photo galleries of high school proms and graduations.

Ever since FL went 3d world I had to open my eyes. When we recently drove through Texas via I10 westbound and returned via I40 we realized that the "don't mess with Texas" days were long gone.

Don't feel too bad, the whole southwest is gone. I don't mean to pick on Texas, but the whole Texas mystique gives the impression that it couldn't happen there. Well it did.

There aren’t fourteen actual journalists in the country.
