When they came out with a Jack Reacher movie, I told my wife that the perfect actor for the part would have been Clint Walker in his younger days.

I think that he fit exactly in looks, size and demeanor as the character is described in the books.

Afterthought. Really PO’d me when they put the pygmy in the role.

Sizewise, a young Walker would have been perfect. Demeanorwise, not so much. Walker comes across as kind hearted. Reacher is a psychopath.

Cruise got the role because he was a producer of the film.

Here are a couple threads I posted about this at that time:

Love Jack Reacher books. TC is NOT what my mind conjures up for a picture of Reacher. I didn’t see the movie ... don’t want to pollute my imagination.

I remember reading about one exercise he would do.

He would go back and forth across the house walking

doing a handstand.That had to end badly every now and then.

RIP

That scene where he and Jim Brown show up in the doorway was priceless.

My wife and I meet him in 2003 at the Kanab Western Legends Round Up. He was still quite a Man and very humble. He didn’t normally pose for pictures with fans, but at his wife Susan’s urging (She could see how disappointed my wife was) He leaned over the table placed a hand on my wife’s shoulder and I took what turned out to be a very good picture of the two of them. My wife was giddy as a school girl!

God welcome you home.

A Cowboy’s Prayer

Oh, Dear Lord thanks for hearing my plea;
And from the bonds of sin rescuing me.

Dark was the path that I once did ride;
But now light is my trail with you as my guide.

Thought sometimes off your range I may stray;
But steeped in your word I soon mend my ways.

For uncertain and sad is the road ridden alone;
But certain and glad is my road when I atone.

For who better to guide me than he who made all;
Who could ride with the Lord and not ride tall.

Give us this day, our bacon and beans;
Knowing if the trail gets rough it’s on you we can lean.

And when it comes time for me to return to the ranch;
All I ask is that you would give this old cowboy a chance.

A cot in Heaven’s bunkhouse is all that I seek;
And a chance to ride for your brand forever in peace.

We still have Ron Ely (Tarzan, Doc Savage-Man of Bronze) and Mike Henry (Tarzan, The Green Berets, Junior in Smokey and the Bandit) with us.

“So few of our H&I icons are alive (i.e. those who didn’t smoke) - “

You may find this hard to believe but even some of those icons who never smoked have died. That’s the way it is.

3 decades ago I was in line at a hardware store in Woodland Hills, Ca. on a Sunday around 7 PM. I did not know it was him because he was in front of me with others behind but when he got to the cashier & spoke you would know that voice anywhere.
