If, as expected, Mitt Romney wins his race for a Senate seat from Utah he may become the most powerful man in the United States Senate. As many of us remember, Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts, ran for president in 2012 and lost to Barack Obama. It wasnt one of those totally humiliating lossesthe map did not turn bluebut we assumed Mitt Romney would fade into history.
Well, maybe not.
The seat will remain Republican-held for President Trump come January of 2019, but this one could very well turn out to be the swing vote in the Senate. If Democrats pick up one seat, not two, the Senate will be tied and Trump will have to continue to rely on Vice President Pence to cast tie-breaking votes, unless other Republicans defect. In that scenario Romney, a frequent critic of President Trumps, could easily upset the balance of power.
The reason? Republican Senator Romney will have what no other Republican Senator currently has, a Republican constituency that does not like President Trump. Trump came in third in the Republican primary in Utah in 2016 and in the general election a large number of voters voted for the independent and Mormon conservative Evan McMullin, rather than pull the lever for Trump or Hillary. For comparison, in 2016 Donald Trump won about 45 percent of the general election vote in Utah; in 2012, Romney won about 73 percent of the presidential vote there. Mormon voters, who make up the majority of voters in Utah, are perhaps the only conservative religious bloc in the country who are bothered by President Trumps many infidelities and dubious business practicesTrumps approval among Mormons trails behind white evangelicals by 14 points.

Bwaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa. My gut hurts
The Utah republican primaries were rigged. It was voter fraud out in the open and in front of all our faces. This is bull that Utah hates Trump.
Because we need someone even dumber than Turtle.
Of all the things to write about going on today, and THIS is what the Brookings Institute writes about? What universe does this happen?

BOL. Mormons hate Trump because they want open borders.
In 2012, when he wanted (and received) Trumps endorsement for his doomed presidential campaign, he spoke about Trump in the most glowing, obsequious terms:
Romney thanks Trump for endorsement.
But in 2016, all of a sudden Trump was a liar, a con man and a failure as a business man.
As the above video shows, Romney doesn't have an ounce of integrity, and shouldnt hold any political position or have any public presence whatsoever.
Mormons are very pro-illegal. Utah is the only red state that gives driver's licenses to illegal aliens. It's that Mormon "welcoming culture" thing, I guess.
Headline is misleading.
“This is bull that Utah hates Trump.”
Trump only got 45% of the vote in Utah due to Evan McMullen. Yeah Trump would have gotten 60% without McMullen on the ballot, but in Utah, people are Mormons first, Republican second. There in no bigger Mormon in America than Mitt Romney. If Romney gets elected, people there will side with him before they will with Trump
Mormons are far underrepresented in the military, and have historically not been the most loyal of Americans. They are very open borders.
Brookings wants Romney to be the new McCain.
If Romney does play the “McCain” role, walking both sides of the fence, he will not receive the support he will require from the party’s conservative base to win the nomination in 2020. Even if the insiders fix the race for Romney in 2020, he will loose to the Democrat. Conservatives have been burned by the false promises and duplicity of the Bush family, McCain, and Romney. They will stay at home, not voting for Romney or the Democrat opponent.
The RINO “vote for me, I am not as bad as my democrat opponent” campaign appeal to the voting base is not going to work in the future. Republican conservatives have been played for fools too long.
I would vote for Jeff Flake for President before I would vote for Mitt (Rhymes with ??) Romney for dog catcher.

nope
Is Mike Lee who was a neverTrumper opposed to Mitt Romney?
Screw Mittens. I won’t bother to vote if he runs.
A cult of traitors. I neither trust nor like them.
Too bad they weren't all wiped out at Nauvoo.
I'd have to seriously think about that one.
