Not that long ago, cigarettes were completely woven into American culture. The Marlboro Man, posters telling us that more doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette, even the armrests on planes and all our cars were designed for smokers.
And now? Not so much.
Can it work like that with guns?
(snip)
I grew up surrounded by cigarette smoke. My dad smoked. So did practically everyone else I knew.
But my kids? Totally different.
They saw someone smoking in a restaurant while we were traveling abroad recently and they freaked out, like theyd witnessed a beheading.
Inconceivable in their world.

Ditched cigarette butts found on the ground are still pretty common.

I ditched the print decades ago. I could ditch bullets one at a time.

Ditched?
Cigarettes and nicotine are available within a mile or two in every urban and suburban area. And nicotine is available in stronger more convenient forms than in the past. Kids even use Juul pods in school, in classrooms.
Maybe the WaPo should rethink their analogy.

From the article: “Can you imagine John Wayne without a rifle or Humphrey Bogart without a cigarette?
Both are part of our narrative. Both have killed millions and millions of us.”
Guns have also saved many lives, while cigarettes have not, so that’s a really big flaw in the comparison.

Kids come to school and shoot their bullies.
Now the plan is to bully us in to changing our gun laws.
So much irony....

The left should have tried to take our guns BEFORE they inflicted their constituency of criminals and the insane on the rest of us.

You say nanny state, I say nazi state.
I am puffing on a Pall Mall. So I guess they are still legal.

The hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds.
Somehow the left believes that we have become more virtuous by ditching tobacco based cigarettes, and replacing them with weed (and vaping).
Pathetic.

The WAPO needs to stop treating us like we are all school shooters.
If we were to shoot somebody its much more likely that they be criminals.....or traitorous tyrants and their complicit propagandists.

Time to shut the WP down.
Bezos doesn’t get to have a monopoly and a propaganda wing.
Break up Amazon, force the sale of the ENEMEDIA WP to vulture captalists
CRUSH, KILL, DESTROY.
That’s what WINNING looks like.
WHY is Hillary still not behind bars.
Times running out.

No. Because when you’re waiting the average 11 minutes for the cops to arrive after the panicked home invasion 911 call, the smell of cigarette smoke will do nothing to repel the home invader, but the report of a bullet leaving the muzzle of your gun is absolutely essential to making the intruder think twice about staying in the house.

Washington Post: Can Americans ditch guns the way we ditched cigarettes?A better question:
Can Americans ditch leftist idiots the way we ditched cigarettes?
Leftism is a cancer that destroys everything that comes into contact with it.
Why can't we have "common-sense leftist control"?

Hey, Petula. You need to do your homework and read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
There is no constitutional amendment to protect smoking cigarettes.
Guns, however, are a different story.
Maybe you didn't read that far, huh?
