The ceremony itself featured an African-American bishop who cited the American civil rights movement and quoted Martin Luther King Jr. as often as he did Jesus. The couple opted for a secular song, Stand by Me, performed by a predominantly black gospel choirjaws literally droppedin addition to old-school Christian hymns sung by the congregation. The traditional Anglican vows were altered slightly to allow the outspoken feminist Markle to opt out of the traditional promise to obey her husband.
While the acceptance of people of color into the royal fold is a welcome and long-overdue change, the acceptance of divorce and immorality by the Church of England is another thing altogether. That the Church blessed the union at all, coming as it did after the couple had been openly cohabitating and in light of Markles divorce, signals a radical departure from the traditions of the church headed by Queen Elizabeth, who inherited the title Defender of the Faith on the day of her coronation. That designation was first granted to King Henry the VIII by Leo X in 1521. Henry VIII, you will recall, famously left the Catholic church after the Pope refused to annul his marriage to first marriage to Catherine of Aragon. He later appointed himself Supreme Head of the Church of England and went on to wed five more women.

he probably missed his mom.
“Love” is used many ways these days. But Christian love, as Jesus exemplified, and commanded of his followers, is a selfless love, one in which one would give his life for another. It is an unconditional love that requires one to care for another without any conditions. To love as Jesus commands does not mean you have to like someone, but nevertheless be there for that person just because he/she is. It is impossible for humans but is something, as Christians, we to seek.
LOL, smoking, even to get back at the crazies, isn’t worth it. I quit in ‘86 and never looked back. The person behind me at the checkout yesterday was a smoker and reeked of that telltale tobacco odor. Not a pleasant smell.
Poor Princess Margret forced into a loveless marriage and finally divorced. Not a very happy life for that poor lady.
[who bring to mind the Kardashians]
Does seem like that in some ways.
QE2 is no fool. No one on the planet has ruled for as long as she has. And she's navigated a lot of scandal and difficult world events.
Much of the ceremony was put together for the sole purpose of reminding everyone Megan is black. Black gospel choir didn’t make sense because Megan was supposedly Catholic. They spotlighted a black cellist and kept zooming in on the black kid in the choir. A bunch of other left wing crap as well. Libs just can’t themselves, they’re mental.
AMEN
As a prince, you would think he could afford a razor and shave before his wedding. He looked like a bum in a fancy uniform.
Unless the driver has a few drinks before going high-speed in the tunnel ..../oops my tinfoil
Given that Diana could have put a Muslim on the throne of England..../oh there I go again
Yes, Harry served admirably in Afghanistan piloting an Apache. The royals always serve, usually only as figureheads. Harry was actually in the fight.
I am sure there were people attending my wedding who thought it was too Catholic for my Congregationist upbringing.
Who cares? I didnt.
Its their wedding. As long as they are happy, who cares?
People who criticize this stuff always strike me as arrogant and shallow.
In Henrys defense, he didnt divorce all of his wives.
:-)
Totally classless brood. Loved the pregnant one sitting behind the Queen with the husband playing around with her knee. You could tell the American priest was going on too long when the royals shared the WTF look and eye-rolling between themselves and some obviously snickered so cameras quickly left them. I think that even the bride and groom were surprised at the length. Too bad Obamas werent there to give them greetings from Rev. Wright and a Muslim blessing.
Did we just see Henry VIIII ??
Probably a flip of the coin: tails - divorce, heads-yours
I didn’t even watch a minute of it. I did see a photo of the bride and I thought she looked lovely and very proper which was a surprise.
I have no idea why they thought a black preacher tossing fire and brimstone would be acceptable? It obviously was a thumb in the eye of the Brits and a declaration that Meghan is not going to be a proper English princess but a ghetto American princess. It should make for some very interesting 4th of July barbecue conversation...oh wait...
Yes, the Obamas and the Windsors have a very special relationship, more special that we know.
I didn’t watch the wedding. Don’t care enough to. lol I was interested in seeing the fashion etc. It did seem that Meghan’s side was celebrity oriented. Seeing Oprah and Clooneys made me go “blech”.
However, I will give Meghan’s mother lots of credit. She dressed nicely, and looked lovely. Her love for her daughter showed but she did not make any scene. I was just impressed with her. She was alone, in a foreign country, watching her daughter marry, in the midst of pomp and circumstance far beyond her experience. The only photo that seemed “real” to me was one of her, sitting in the pew, looking intently and happy.
Meghan and Harry are a couple of liberal do-gooders. I imagine they will fade from the limelight quickly now that this is over. I hope so, anyway. Maybe, if she gets pregnant, there will be some interest. shrug

Your generation is showing. He looked fine and very handsome.
