Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Saturday said Republican lawmakers efforts to uncover the identity of an FBI informant in order to obstruct special counsel Robert Muellers investigation comes close to "crossing a legal line."
Schumer was tweeting his support of a statement from the Senate Intelligence Committee's top Democrat, Mark Warner (Va.), who warned Republican lawmakers against exposing the identity of the informant who gave investigators information about possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Warner said in a separate Twitter thread on Friday, "It would be at best irresponsible, and at worst potentially illegal, for members of Congress to use their positions to learn the identity of an FBI source for the purpose of undermining the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in our election."
Exposing sources makes it that much harder for every part of the intelligence community to gather intelligence on those who wish to do us harm, Warner wrote.
The next day, Schumer said Warner's statement was "on the money" and serves as a severe warning to GOP representatives who are trying to tamper with the investigation.
Schumer and Warners comments come after a report from the Washington Post alleged President Trump had begun a campaign to expose the role of the informant.
The New York Times reported last week that an FBI informant met with two former Trump campaign advisers, George Papadopoulos and Carter Page.
The Justice Department (DOJ) denied a request earlier this month from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) for details related to the source. DOJ said that releasing such information would put lives at risk and endanger national security.

Chuckie’s threats clearly constitute obstruction of justice. Lock him up!
the commies leftist D party bosses are getting worried they’ll be uncovered, exposed, prosecuted...
Hmmm. I wonder which "us" it is that Warner's referring to, eh? Let's play pronoun bingo...
Exposing sources makes it that much harder for every part of the intelligence community to gather intelligence on those who wish to do Democrats harm, Warner wrote.
Eh?
Actually, Warner is correct... but as an attorney, he should also know that the reason for bringing a certain evidentiary fact is crucial. Since the purpose of looking into the source is NOT "undermining the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in our election, but rather to find out whether the investigation itself was illegal, it magically changes from "irresponsible and potentially illegal" to fully justified and proper.
(eg: it is improper to bring up prior illegal acts as proof that a defendant committed the crime being charged, but it is usually allowed as proof of character, when that aspect of character is raised)
Rule 404: "This evidence may be admissible for another purpose, such as proving motive, opportunity, intent, preparation, plan, knowledge, identity, absence of mistake, or lack of accident."
Crossing the line describes the sitting party using the immense powers of government to undermine the opposing party’s election campaign.
THAT was crossing the line.
If it gets leaked there is no crime, right Schmuckey?
That’s how your side does it!
spies in time of war are shot pronto
democrats have a war on against trump and the rule of law..
Remember this, as a member of the Gang of Eight he had been already been briefed on Brennan/Comey covert espionage operation of Trump when he said to the Press the ‘Trump should be careful taking on the intelligence community, they have 16 ways to Sunday to get you ‘
Heard Hannity say he knows the name as well as most media. If the guy did something illegal/unethical he deserves to be named IMO.
Bwahahahaha, the NYT published his name a week or so ago in a story.
And... the answer is... Sessions agrees with Schumer.
The DC Deep Swamp is leaking like a sieve and Warner and Schumer think that exposing this FBI mole's name is illegal and deserves a "severe warning" to the Republicans?
Cue three guys laughing their asses off:
Lemme help ya, SpewMore:
Halper Halper Halper
Halper Halper Halper
Halper Halper Halper
Halper Halper Halper

The State Department can find out the last place his passport was scanned. I imagine if we waterboarded John "CPUSA" Brennan that we'd get some answers.
That does it.
YOOOUUU have now crossed the line....according to Cryin’ Clown Schumer.
EXCERPT:
“Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.
What movie is that from? I have no idea. TIA
