The iron cross did not originate with the Nazis. The Nazis simply continued the use of the iron cross.Hitler, Goering and Rommel ALL earned their (first) iron cross in WWI before the Nazi party existed.

We were pretty much a death penalty nation during the turn of the century, wild west, and even during two world wars, the murder rate was lower during those times as well, we also had plenty of the populace owning firearms as well.

You’re saying “Deranged teens who can’t handle guns properly need to control themselves or Hogg will take our guns away”?
Explain how any of that makes sense.

In my case, being the 2nd smallest guy in my high school class (and maybe the 2nd smallest male in the whole HS until I was a junior), I befriended the center on the basketball team, the starting power forward, the strongest, toughest guy on the football team, the co-captain of the wrestling team, and a couple other such fellows. A couple I helped with schoolwork.
That worked pretty well!
I hate to sound cold, but they took every kid they could find with aggression and violence, and threw them into war with an order to fight until they ran out of ammo and then make a kamikaze suicide run, in a war they lost pretty decisively.
It is possible mankind is only kept civilized by existing in groups who expel the unmanageable into the cold, and cull them from the population.
We have not had such a selective pressure for a long time, so we may be culturing violent mutants in ever increasing numbers, and allowing them to spread genes and multiply.
