Nearly two weeks ahead of their day of nationwide racial bias training, coffee chain Starbucks is facing new accusations of racism after a Latino customer discovered a racial slur written on his coffee order.
A Latino man named Peter received a cold coffee drink labeled BEANER.
En español es frijoleros, beaner, you know, in English, said the victims friend Miguel Acosta.
He went to Starbucks, and they asked for his name, and his name is Peter, and they wrote this beaner, Acosta told CBS2 News through a coworker who was translating. And hes saying thats not fair.
Acosta said his friend didnt deserve such treatment and doesnt understand why he was targeted.
Mi amigo está triste también, said Acosta. My friend is also sad.
Patrons at the La Cañada Starbucks Wednesday were taken aback by the news.
Im shocked, said one woman. I go to that Starbucks almost every day.
It’s a cultural thing. The whole premise of this is funny. :)
Sorry, I just can’t take this sort of stuff seriously. Have you ever had the pleasure of saying to an angry feminist, “Feminists are so cute when you’re mad.”? It’s quite rewarding.
Same sort of thing. I publicly stop taking this silliness seriously. The results are interesting.
In Texas we lean towards the term Majado.
You know folks, toughen up. Is this really that big a deal?
Keep in mind what is going on, on our university campuses with regard to Whites at this point in time, arguable far worse than this.
Was this appropriate? Of course not.
Let me tell you that this Starbucks was inundated by media news helicopters, camera crews, and traffic for blocks was snarled for this idiotic event.
Good freakin grief.
It really is very funny!

Starbucks name fails
I couldn’t get past a Latino Man named “Peter”.
Since he can’t speak English, I assume he has a very heavy accent. What he said and what the Cashier heard could be completely different.
For this to be intentional, you must believe that the Starbuck’s Cashier is a Bigot or they must have had a Job Fair at the last KKK Convention.
I used to live in La Crescenta which is next to La Canada. We always joked it was a White Island, since we had exactly ONE Black Guy in my High School Graduating Class, but that was almost 50 Years ago.
Nowadays, those two towns are full of Armenians and Persians and the Property Values are sky high.
People who go to Starbucks are coffee beaners.
“frijoleros”
And here I thought “lechuga” was my favorite Messican word.
LOL!
Peener - the guys a metal worker
Something doesnt add up here.
This story says Peter went into Starbucks Tuesday afternoon.

The time on that coffee cup says otherwise.
This stud has gotten really ridiculous. This person has the thinnest skin Ive ever heard of and there are plenty more people with the same problem.
I agree. The coverage of these stories is one-sided, and I very often really do get the sneaking feeling that people of other races are giving me crappy service because they don’t like me because I’m white. But nevertheless, I do have it pretty good here, and a lot of times they don’t. World is a complicated place. I try to do business with people who seem to appreciate my business. Not much more I can do. I’ve never gotten a starbucks cup with honky written on it. I don’t know what I would do if I did.
The label was a computerized label with coffee description and name of customer. Sorry but I do not think such an easily traceable label back to the employee is anything but an innocent mistake probably thickly accented latino accent saying Peter in a crowded coffee shop could be mistaken for beaner with many young employees not even knowing the significance of the word.Race card folks need to chill a bit.
If Peter has a cleft palate and heavy accent, that’s exactly what it sounds like when he says his name.
