Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Monday he will prosecute a Mexican woman charged with stealing an American citizen’s identity and then using it to cast ballots in three presidential election years.
Laura Janeth Garza was spotted after the American woman went to get a passport, only to have the State Department discover Ms. Garza had already gotten one in her identity. Federal officials alerted Texas, which conducted a probe and found Ms. Garza also illegally registered to vote and cast ballots in 2004, 2012 and 2016, Mr. Paxton said.
“This case demonstrates my office’s commitment to protecting the integrity of elections,” the attorney general said in a statement announcing the prosecution.
She is being charged with two counts of illegal voting, both stemming from the 2016 election, according to indictments from Montgomery County, north of Houston.
If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison.

Well, yeah, but this was just a one-off occurrence. /s
It must cost a bloody fortune to investigate, prosecute, then incarcerate an illegal who then votes. This is a crime or set of crimes that took about $1.50 total in mail-in postage to commit, maximum. But there really is no alternative. Yeah, I get “sending a message”. Big deal, for every one found, there are probably 50 who go undetected. The identity theft is potentially a big deal, please don’t take my post as understating the seriousness. I am bemoaning how much it costs to police the integrity of elections.

The problem is exacerbated by some states knowingly giving ID and/or drivers licenses to illegal aliens.
It’s not possible. Everyone knows that no illegal votes have been cast in the past few elections.

And just how long will that take? Seems to me that “a speedy trial,” conviction and incarceration should be the order of the day here. There needs to be a link between the crime and quick and sure justice, so that others will take heed.

Good prosecute her then kick her butt back to Mexico. We don’t need to pay for this mutt for the next twenty years.
Most states require a thumb print for a driving license long past due for requiring thumb print or other biological identity for voting.
The rapist illegal alien in, I think, Washington state last month had 30 fake identities.
