A student has stripped down to her bra and underwear during her thesis presentation in protest against her professor's comments that her choice of clothing was inappropriate.
Letitia Chai, a senior student at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, took off her clothes during her presentation, which was filmed on Facebook live, to stand up against "oppressive beliefs and discrimination".
Ms Chai organised the protest after her teacher allegedly questioned her choice of clothing during a test run of her thesis presentation and told her: "Your shorts are too short".
Describing the incident in a Facebook post, Chai wrote: "She proceeded to tell me in front of my whole class that I was inviting the male gaze away from the content of my presentation and onto my body."
~
"Needless to say, I was shook," Ms Chai wrote.
After she left the classroom, her teacher came out to talk to her and according to Ms Chai, she asked her what her mother would think of her outfit.
"What would my mom think? My mom is a feminist, gender, sexuality studies professor. She has dedicated her life to the empowerment of people in all gender identities. So, I think my mother would [be] fine with my shorts," ...
When asked what she was going to do, Ms Chai replied: "I'm going to give the best damn speech of my life."
Writing on Facebook, Ms Chai invited others to support her on the day of her actual presentation and asked people to "strip down" to their underwear with her during her 15-minute address.
~
She told the audience of several dozens that this was a call for "solidarity" with students like her who had been asked to "question themselves about their appearances for the comfort of others".

My son just got admitted to law school and a major reasons was the letter of recommendation his current employer wrote. It was a rave. She emphasized his professional conduct along with the way he presents himself in manner and appearance. That’s right he wears a suit and tie to work every single day.
Sounds like Ms Chai, in short shorts, was intending to sway the prof away from the content of her thesis. She got called on it and decided to take it to the limit — videoing the incident and removing the short shorts.
Sounds like she was setting this up so as to have grounds to complain, if she didn’t like the grade she got.
Its always the women who you don’t want to see naked, isn’t it?
Congratulations to BOTH of you!
It’s really not that complicated but professionalism is so rare these days that it when it is practiced, it makes a huge favorable impression.
It's no wonder these types are stuck in academia for their entire careers. It's the only place where they won't get reality mugged for believing they get to unilaterally define what reality is.
All women try it, but not all can get away with it.
A 6 if you vote after the bar closes.
DANG!
Not English grammar.
"Needless to say, I was shook," Ms Chai wrote.
Lets see...
Young white lady wears a qipao to her prom and is excoriated by a Chinese(-American?) named Jeremy over her politically incorrect cultural appropriation.
Cornell Chinese-American student is admonished by her professor for wearing an overly short skirt to give her thesis presentation. Decides to shed all clothing but underwear during the presentation as a form of protest.
Observation: Snowflakes who trade on their ethnicity want to have it both ways. They want to beat others with the culture stick for wearing clothes they think they shouldnt be allowed to, while being themselves free to wear as little or no clothing at all and be celebrated as heroes for defying the social patriarchy or whatever.
She needs some muscle tone.
She needed to pull more off to pull this off.
I think we are two lucky mothers.
(Men are pretty funny) LOL
She will do fine and eventually ride her mommies coat tails up the Ivory Tower.
Cornell students GONE WILD!!!
Interesting that her slide shows Buddhist(?) with their long plain robes. I have no idea, but I’m guessing plain robes like that are designed to draw another’s gaze away from the form of the person.
In liberal’s minds, one goes almost naked to show that the form of one’s body has no meaning. (Well, in this case, the gal is correct imho. She has about the plainest, bland and average body I could imagine. Not great, not ugly, not fat - just, blah.)
Have fun getting a job idiot.
Was this was the sort of emergency that old time mothers had in mind when they told you to always wear clean underwear, because you might be in an accident and people would see.
Black is a concealing color.
The ones that whine the most about this never are...
Well spotted - very good point. Religious dress is a means of living out a particular spiritual value. It is another example of how the way we dress is part of how we interact with others and become part of the social world.
