Iran launched dozens of rockets at Israel yesterday, causing little damage thanks to the Iron Dome system Israel employs for just such occasions. In retaliation, Israel launched a wide-ranging military strike on Iranian assets in Syria. It might have looked proportional at first, but it has now become apparent that Israel has decided to reduce Irans ability to operate effectively in Syria at all:

Seems like the response was a little more robust than originally thought. Go IDF!

Seems like the response was a little more robust than originally thought. Overwhelming destructive retaliation to terrorism is the best response. The terrorist is a suicide bomber? Bulldoze his family's house.

A strategy of “proportional response” allows the enemy to predict his own potential losses, thereby making his initial attack a business transaction. A devastating response is the only response.

Without a legitimate nuke threat, which it dare not use lest it risk annihilation, Iran is a paper tiger. It couldn’t defeat Israel, but challenges the United States?

A more useful definition of “proportionality” would be “no more or less than what was needed to get the job done”. In that sense, it looks like proportionality has been achieved.

Overwhelming destructive retaliation to terrorism is the best response. The terrorist is a suicide bomber? Bulldoze his family's house. No, LEAVE his house, but destroy the houses of his siblings and cousins, plus the two houses on either side of his. Ensure his neighbors know who is responsible for the destruction of their homes.

Thanks. Excellent article. It underlines most of what I heard last night. I think Iranian casualties are going to be higher than stated here.
Israel’s intelligence is topnotch. That is why they have the upper hand here. Combined with their technology, it can’t be beat. I think that is one of the areas in which Iran miscalculated. Israel knew what was going to happen ahead of time, and those rockets knew just where their targets were. Very amazing.

I have talked to Iranians who left Iran when the shah was disposed and they HATE the islamists with a passion.
They state that they are Iranian people, Zoroastrians, NOT muslims.
I don’t think it would take much to push the Iranian people over the edge.

I’ve met a dozen “Iranians” in the US including 2 co-workers. They all called themselves Persian.

And these folks did too.
I guess Zoroastrianism is the religion of the Persians.
Anyway, it would be good for us to remember that the Iranian people are not who is behind the mess over there. The islamic leader are.
