In a nutshell, Wictor’s overall conclusion is that President Trump has been backing the U.S. military off and this is allowing the Saudis, the Israelis and the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) to settle affairs in that region.

Probably was Israeli as the Iranians have been in the process of upgrading missiles and guidance systems stockpiled in Syria scheduled for transhipment to Hezbollah or use by al-Qods under Iranian Gen. Suleimani in preparation for a massive attack on the Israeli Golan. The troops killed would have been specialists doing the upgrades.

Yep. The Iranians wanted in Syria to get to Israel. If they were to damage Israel with their more advanced weapons, it would really increase their gravitas in the Arab world. Everyone knows Hezbollah doesn’t have cruise missiles or advanced rockets. They can barely work an AK. Most of the people using MANPADS are actually foreigners.
