When I learned that the suspect in the Toronto van attack had apparently posted a Facebook message identifying himself as a foot soldier in what he called the “incel rebellion,” I was saddened but not at all surprised. As the keeper of a blog devoted to tracking the culture of misogyny online, I have been watching the “incel” subculture for seven years – and I find its rise in the past several years to be nearly as disturbing as the recent rebirth of the neo-Nazi right.
Incel, as many Canadians have learned this past week, is short for “involuntary celibate,” and is the preferred moniker of a number of mostly young men united by a shared bitterness over their inability to persuade women to sleep with them. They let this fact define their entire lives, and devote much of their time online lashing out at the women who don’t want them – and picking over the supposed flaws in their own appearances that they think render them forever unlovable.
When you combine this sort of anger and self-pity, you often get violence. Four years ago, a man named Elliot Rodger murdered six in Isla Vista, Calif., in an attempt, as he explained in the 137-page manifesto he left behind, to take his “retribution” against women. Incels have embraced “Saint Elliot’” as a martyr and role model – and so, evidently, did Alek Minassian, who hailed “the Supreme Gentleman Elliot Rodger” in his Facebook post.
So is there any way we can prevent more tragedies such as this?
Remarkably, there have been some very patient “normies” – that’s how incels deem average people – who have waded into these hateful spaces in an attempt to convince the obviously damaged incels who inhabit them to seek out the professional help...

I remember lamenting as a teen all those girls who "have sex with everyone but me!" while being totally oblivious to the other girls who liked me and would've had sex with me had I asked. It was an awkward time, being a teenager.
But this is a teenage problem!
With a 50/50 sex breakdown, if you have reached full-grown manhood and have not yet figured out which women "are in your price range" for the purpose of copulation, something's wrong. By that age, I'd learned which women I have no chance with, but more importantly, which women I did.
For every unattractive guy with poor social skills, there's an unattractive girl with poor social skills.
Turn off the computer, go outside, and find her! You might be surprised how easy it is to just talk to people.
Sure, the next 9 or maybe even 99 women will tell you to get lost but for that one who doesn't, it'll all be worth it.
Comtemporary society is so saturated with casual sex and Tinder hookups that only the most extreme weirdo loser would have this complaint. It is probably made worse by the schizoid way women are portrayed in Leftist media.
On the one hand you have the skanky and cartoonish portrayal of women in video games and TV and movies. At the same time you see the same Left demand that women be treated with "respect", the same respect you'd show toward a minefield.
And yes I believe these weirdos view women as just another "thing", "stuff" if you will, an entertainment center like an iPod or flast screen TV.

We now have generations of children whose parents gave them everything they wanted when they wanted it. They never learned how to deal with disappointment.
Sometimes I think, our schools and too many parents, fail in their jobs, because of this.
as you mention, generations have given their kids everything they wanted, when they wanted.
Schools have relaxed discipline rules. We hear how they give out participation trophies.
We hear how some sports activities for kids don’t even keep score of the games, so that everyone is a winner.
A lot has changed over the years, and not all of it for the better, by any means.

The problem is that so many women would rather "share" a handsome, witty guy, than have a nerd all to herself. It's the 80/20 rule: the top 20% of guys getting 80% of the female attention.
For most of civilization, the vast majority of women needed a husband of their own to support them and their children. This forced women to "settle" for the best they could get who would marry them. Now, women can support themselves through their own jobs, and live the "Sex and the City" lifestyle. At least in their 20's.
Some countries in need of skilled technologists could attract some of these nerds, if they promised them access to reasonably attractive women desirous of a husband who could actually support them. But the countries would have to ensure that the male nerds were not at risk of "divorce rape".
This is the natural man standard prevalent in many backward cultures and the reason Islam and pre-Columbian Native Americans allowed men to have up to four wives.
They dealt with the surplus of men by wars, slavery and turning them into eunuchs or sacrifices. That's the harsh reality.
Christianity, with its roots in another civilized religion (Judaism), brought in two new concepts called monogamy and spiritually training people in overcoming the natural man. It also normalized it by making male and female equal in the sight of God but with different and distinct roles in the family. This is why the Left is so anxious to undermine the family concept and turn the clock back by making the concept of monogamy and family fit that of the natural man.
One symptom is the Left's energetic push to appoint judges who are hostile to the traditional Judeo-Christian family unit. Four members of our Supreme Court fit that mold perfectly whereas two (Kennedy and Roberts) will drift into that territory often.
Have heard of the “MGTOW” movement, but not of “incels”. The “MGTOW” (stands for “Men Going their own way”) is about men that have given up on pursuing women though, not necessarily those who can’t get them. More like they aren’t willing to do what it takes to. I don’t know a lot about them, but from what I have see the MGTOW are bitter and anti-woman enough. If the “incels” are real and not a hoax/satire then they sound like extreme MGTOW’s to me.

Anyone who doesn't see how the elite are pushing for this in modern society are just plain blind. There's a reason that a normal guy
now simply can't afford to go on vacations every summer like his analog in the `50s or `60s could. There's a reason that Millennials hate when Boomers give their when I was your age I could work a job over the summer and pay for college

[as if you could go outside, turn over a rock, and *BAM!* there's a job].
The whole STEM shortage
is a good example of Fake News; it's not that there's a shortage, it's that the companies are increasingly unwilling to pay a good wage, opting for H1B fraud instead [and, incidentally, lowering the average wages].
The unattractive girl with poor social skills can get an occasional date from guys who have no better options some night, and will likely prefer that occasional attention over attention from some guy who is just as unattractive as she is.
